IIM vs US B schools - 08-05-2008, 10:10 AM

I respect IIMs, and also its well known fact that getting into is the toughest in the world,

But I've seen many cases where seniors who pass out from IIM again do MBA from some US Bschool. If after a gruelling 2 yrs course a person again does a MBA from US Bschool why not do it straight away, or is it just for the brand?

It seems the salary figures we see in news are blown up, dollar converted, and actual figures are not that great.

I have 4 yrs work-ex in IT, and no doubt have been taking CAT everyyear and finally could get into IIM L, now after listening to people about the views on whether to join or not I am really scared.

May be some one in the current batch or passed out with a similar profile can suggest better what to do. Seniors please suggest.
Admins:- I have searched for similar topics but didnt find one, If there exists please merge this with that one.

Congrats for converting IIM L. Now the question you have put up here can be asked straight away on IIM L thread as your query will get better attention and also, you have IIM L convert in hand.

Can I know your source of information or proper data as in what % of IIMs graduate go to US B-school for another MBA.

I think one factor would be as IIM offers a PG diploma, which is not recognized by US universities for further studies, and hence people go for US MBA and then a PHD.

Also, it depends on your personal aspiration i.e. what are you content with or what level you want to reach after MBA.

I would advice you to take up IIM L without any hesitations or contact seniors of different IIMs via PM or post on IIM L thread.

In case u need more clarification , feel free to PM me.
