The Best of "All I Wanted to Speak about Cat" -
07-05-2008, 04:36 AM
This thread has the same intention as
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/cat-an...king-best.html (Inspiring stories of CAT cracking or The Best of 'All I wanted to speak about CAT')
Why the new thread? - The previous thread is not correct anymore. The links provided point to wrong posts or to nowhere at all. This is due to the recent deletion of unnecessary posts from the thread.
- The previous thread is not updated anymore.
- I have lots of free time right now
and couldn't think of a better way to utilize it.
Also, please follow the guideline below.......

You could have PMed Apurv with all the stuff you've compiled and he could have updated the same thread. Anyway, good job.
You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club

Basilisk, great job! Even for people who've cleared CAT, the stories of these rocking folks will continue to serve as inspiration.
Just a suggestion, Basilisk. Please hyperlink just one post per link, instead of the entire page. It'll load faster, and show only one story.
P.S. Mods, I think we should carry out some basic editing, and really publish these stories as an ebook. I can volunteer to help with editing and compiling.
P.P.S. Basilisk bhai, why isn't your story in here?

guys , lets keep this thread clean.
I would suggest locking this thread up. as and when a new entry comes up , it can always be updated.
so ,we can have only one post with all the info.
cheers n regards

That's a great job Basilisk, but even this would face the same problems my older thread faced. Post numbers keep changing as the number of posts in the thread change. Secondly, different people have different settings for 'Number of posts to be shown on one page' in their My Account. So these links are going to lead different people to different posts.
The only way to keep this in control is by making the ebook. I had started a
thread on that but there was no response (probably because people were busy with exams that time). If people are interested in assisting me in creating that ebook, I'll resurrect the project again .
Cheers,

Many stories are more than a single post long.

I don't really know how the whole referencing system works here. And I have included reachmonil's advice on the top there.
But yes, the ebook idea is the best. Diablo and Sumit are ready for the ebook work and they can follow the links here (they'll be correct for some time at least ), so the ebook work can be done.

Re: The Best of "All I Wanted to Speak about Cat" -

There are two types of links to a single post:
Permanent Links (Direct)
Permalinks (thread oriented)
Check the pic below:
For Permalinks, the following rules apply:
1. Your settings for the page views on the forum should:
a. have setting 'Oldest thread first' and
b. 'No. of posts per page' should be 'Forum default'
2. You are to view the post as it is, in its setting in the actual thread.
3. You have clicked or copied the link with the word permalink.
Then, the link will take you to the page where the post is, and take the browser to the post itself. The thread is there all around, you can scroll up or down that page.
However, if either 1a or 1b are not what they are supposed to be, there is a problem and the post will not be shown.
However, if you use the Permanent Link option, then all these issues vanish. The rules are:
1. You don't need any extraneous settings for it.
2. You want to view the post by itself, not in conjunction with the rest of the thread.
3. You have clicked the number of the post, like in the pic above, you've clicked #345.
This is a path- or thread- independent method of linking to a particular post. It links to that particular post's id within the whole forum, which remains the same whatever you do to the thread. Hence, using the link in the number of the post is feasible.
Basilisk, I suggest you do that, to ensure that you don't need to reupdate the same links again and again.
PS: This post actually belongs to the visual guide, but since I can't post there, am posting here. Will tell Mahip to add this data to the guide, then edit this post to link it there.
Regards,
Grondmaster
