Sundar..I appreciate your efforts in promoting your blog (Which is quite good if i may add)..But this is stretching it a bit too far.

If you have views on this, which i am sure you do, please pen it here on this thread. There are other threads which are meant for blogs promotions on pg itself.

I saw this on the iimb gd/pi thread and now this..

Pls do take it in the positive sense..

A sincere request to puys to STOP POSTING UR PERSONAL VIEWS ON RESERVATION FOR SOME TIME because any relevant post which does give some info or update about reluts gets lost in the sea of spam(sry to call it a spam, it actually is the most relevant issue but not at this time, not for this thread)

When will the politicians stop playing with the lives of students :(
Till they know that it's not gonna harm them.
They'll do it for votes.
If they see that they'll be oot of power if they do it... they won't..
Quote:
They are fighting a civil war over dead and buried issues, about which nobody cares. I mean, when you befriend someone you dont ask for their caste do you, so where the hell does the whole issue of discrimination crop up
The way its growing , I won't be surprised if ppl do start asking that..
Quote:
Management admissions are not exclusive, nobody stopped the caste ppl to apply. If they are good enough, they will get through anyways, reservation or no...
How will they get their votes???

Quote:
They have played a political card which, I daresay, may have long term repurcussions. I am sure many general category students are going to miss out on seats this year and they will have a simple explanation for that - reservation. Even if they had not made it to the original merit list they wont know. They will think I missed out because of the reservation farce...
This may fuel a deep disgust towards the caste ppl...The next year when they do get into a college and get to know someone who had got through the previous year on reservation, the disgust may find a way out and god knows what the reaction would be...then the real discrimination may start again...
Law of land... People are selfish and untill there is a serious loss to themselves
they won't do anything.
The day GN ppl wud realise that they are losing out big time.. action will happen
No one is losing now as GN seats are not decreasing -- hence no action

What beats me is how do people oversee the trend and where is it leading to..!

I think one thread is definitely required for free flowing discussions.
And as this thread has allways had discussions i'll suggest to maintain it.

If required, we can have a separate thread just for tracking the lastest updates.
It can be a one common repository and then discuss them here.

To me, quelling the discussions doesn't seem to be a good idea.

Re: SC Upholds OBC , Results likely to be delyaed - 11-04-2008, 11:14 AM

The delay in results means that people who have got admissions into colleges like MDI, IMT-G, NITIE, and many other top colleges and who are waiting for their IIM results will seal their seats in these colleges, because of which the waitlist movement will be slowed down SIGNIFICANTLY. This will mean fewer people will get seats in these colleges.

Its a cascading effect basically.

As far as the judgement goes, I think it is a fair one. I am staunchly anti reservation as I think it violates my basic rights as a general category student. But we have to look at things differently. If the SC ruled completely against reservations and struck them down, this is what would have happened :

1. Riots in many cities in our country, life comes to a standstill as nearly ALL political parties will look to potray the decision as "anti Indian", "anti lower class", there would be strikes, violence and what not.

2. The government would pass a bill guaranteeing reservation in the legislature bypassing the Supreme Court verdict, put this bill in the ninth schedule (which means the its untouchable by the Supreme court)
and we general students and our children/grand children/great grandchildren/great great .... (ok you get the point) are screwed for eternity.

So I think the Supreme Court has done the best job they could basically. They are atleast removing (or attempting to remove) the undeserving rich OBCs from reservation. Its the maximum we could have expected to be honest. Reservations are here to stay, it doesnt matter if a thousand general category students burn themselves up in flames the government and political class(or classless) DONT give a damn about us. The reservations would have come about in any case, this is the best we could have hoped for IMO.

BTW another thing that I am very happy about is this :

IndianExpress.com :: A reality check from Justice Bhandari: fix schools...don’t touch private institutions

Quote:
In yet another view of his own, the judge held that imposing reservation on unaided institutions violates the basic structure by obliterating citizens’ 19(1)(g) right to carry on an occupation. Bringing it out explicitly that the Government is likely to target unaided institutions in the future, the judge painstakingly clarified that imposing reservation on unaided institutions violates the Basic Structure by stripping citizens of their fundamental right under Article 19(1)(g) to carry on an occupation.
Which basically means the judiciary is completely against imposing reservations in private institutions. I think if action is taken on this front, and private colleges have the willpower we can actually have a situation where we have reservation free IMTs, SPJAINS, NITIEs,MDIs etc ! That is indeed great news from this judgement
