why such a silence today..!!

There still are lots of things to be discussed...

1) Why creamy layer is not being implemented in SC/ST quota?

2) If the quota is not taken back soon enough, it'll become a hygiene thing (the way SC/ST reservation has) and various groups will start campaigning for something more.

3) Thank God, a graduate is not in the creamy layer.

4) Only thing that can be done is formation of a political party or some party which takes this cause up.. High chance it'll be in power pretty soon. And change the ruling.

Confusion on quota beyond graduation level, govt to seek clarification- Politics/Nation-News-The Economic Times

But the dampener for the government came when the court ruled on who constitutes the creamy layer. Three judges have opined against extending the benefits of reservation beyond graduation level. A worried government is planning to seek a clarification from the court on the issue.

But the exclusion of creamy layer has already dented celebrations in UPA. ‘Social justice parties’ in UPA and CPI have spoken out against exclusion of the creamy layer. But the government is in no mood for any adventurism and has ruled out seeking a review of the order.

But the government is certain to come under pressure to ensure quota in elite institutions like IIMs is put into effect. The unhappy crowd in UPA is certain to latch on to demand more from the government. Three judges in the five-judge bench — Justices Arijit Pasayat, C K Thakker and Dalveer Bhandari — were of the view that graduation should be the cut off limit for availing quota benefits. If this interpretation stays, OBCs will not get reservation not just in IIMs but also in other postgraduate courses in institutions such as AIIMS.

Here are my views about OBC.

I dont support reservation as such. But think, they have done a fair job this time. I mean, given that we dont have control over reservations and cant do much about it, they have a done a fair job! :-D

Puys i am a little new to this thread and reallyy didnt get the time to read the previous posts..CAn sum1 briefly enlighten me on the current situation..

Is there are any chance wat so ever that results mite come out today..A & B i guess have said that results have been delayed..wat abt others??

I called up IIMCAL office just now.......
The man who picked up said it wont be out today.....
I asked when will it be out?? he said till IIM's get the official notice from the government......

I kept on asking whether IIM's fall under this new rule??
He said, "y r u askin this??r u frm obc category??"
I said no.......:frown:

Ok, I devoured all news channels last nite and a lot of newspapers today, here is what everybody is saying

1. Speaking on pure technical grounds, any sensible soul by reading the judgement will be under no doubt that quota doesn't apply to IIM's

2.I saw on NDTV what Justice bhandari said -"Seats falling vacant from OBC quota WILL BE filled by general category.

Now the doubts,
1. Why have almost all news channels missed that IIM's don't come under perview of quota and who didn't , they are also saying that there is confusion.
I mena come on, there cannot be more clarity in the judgement regarding this .,, since IIM's also seem very interested in providing reservations ,,,groan at me for doubting that these politicians and other stakeholders are hell-bent on misinterpreting judgement and providing quota in IIM's
It is also upto us by spreading awareness about that part of judgement specially to all news channels as Parul did(3 cheers for that).....let this point come out in media with full force so that everybody knows exactly what the judgement is and there cannot be OBC quota in IIM's


If it is made clear, it definitely shudn't take 3 weeks for result(I also called up A yesterday and the person said that it will take 1 to 3 weeks:frown



PS: as far as my contribution is concerned , i have a close relative who is VP and country head for CNN-IBN and CNBC. I asked him how can the channels display wrong information ..what he said was
"When such judgements are released,it is a race to highlight basic crux of the matter and get AS MANY REACTIONS AS POSSIBLE, nobody bothers to check it in entirety, with time the sense will prevail,""
I have already forwarded him relevant sections from the judgement, my sincere request to all puys to go on a media calling spree and get this out LOUD AND CLEAR
