Hi All,
As per the following article from rediff, the quota would only apply till graduation, and not for post-graduate admissions (which include IIM's) Supreme Court has accepted our argument: Salve | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Sonu_pk For This Useful Post:

The Quota, if implemented, will single handedly push the quality of IIM pass outs down by 27 %
For those who feel its the quality of education in the IIMs that dictates the quality of its pass outs - you have got it all upside-down.
I have nothing against a 99%iler with good break-up filling up the quota, but why should any one who took 38 mocks, attended loads of workshops and passed out from a top notch engineering college land up in an IIM with just 97%ile? Quite obviously, such a candidate is going to displace a 99%iler - Unluckily non-OBC candidate. This displaced soul will land up in schools like MDI, NITIE, XL, SPJ et all...
Then there would be no blaming anyone who compares an MDI with lets say C. For he would not be far from the truth.
We are moving into an India where there will be more IIMs with more seats to occupy in each, more quota will result in more desrving people missing out. For those who manage to get into an IIM, the all-conquering feeling would still be there, albiet a tad diluted.
For someone like me who landed in a non-IIM b-school, there is an increased prospect of better competition. And so, after having applied through general inspite of being OBC eligible, i think i have done not just the right thing, but the smart thing as well.
Rock on!
hameed ps- may better sense prevail and IIMs and all post graduate studies be exempt from the quota, if not the death of the quata. | | | | | The Following 15 Users Say Thank You to hameed For This Useful Post: | catapult (10-04-2008), cimbaish_Nitin (10-04-2008), Greenspan (10-04-2008), Jok3r (10-04-2008), macora (10-04-2008), Mojo (10-04-2008), Obsessed_bout_mba (10-04-2008), peekay2n (11-04-2008), prashant_iitiim (10-04-2008), RISING (10-04-2008), rjt163 (10-04-2008), route_to_perdition (10-04-2008), somname (10-04-2008), sukrut (10-04-2008), veritas (10-04-2008)

How low can they get? When their sons and daughters can't avail the quota, they start squirming in their seats and shamelessly speak like this. God only knows where India is heading to. | Very well agree with u.. Totally destroys the purpose of reservation (I dont agree with concept of reservation in first place).
All the people who are currently using the reservation criteria come from well to do families or families where there are already people using the quota.
When these parties speak of social justice cant they think even once, what is social justice. Is it the caste or the religion separation they are propagating. The social justice should be based upon social status. We know that we cant make a difference in this regard, these are politicians which we have chosen.
But if the said thing about creamy layer and the minimum income come true this itself will be good enough. | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to macora For This Useful Post:

I think first of all we need to be clear about what the judgement has been. There are many versions of it coming now.
Is there any way we can get a copy of the judgement and understand what is going to happen in case of IIMs?

Check: Supreme Court has accepted our argument: Salve
This rediff article suggests that Quota will not be implemented in post-graduate colleges. Is that authentic? Copy-pasting the relevant part from the article: He emphasised that, "Indian Institute of Management is a centre of post-graduate studies and the judges have accepted our argument and have exempted the application of reservation in post-graduation studies". Salve said that, "Indian Institute of Technology may have the reservation for OBCs".

Rediff Article Supreme Court has accepted our argument: Salve Sheela Bhatt in New Delhi April 10, 2008 16:57 IST
Harish Salve, lawyer for the doctors' association, who are against reservation in higher studies, told rediff.com, "I am quite happy with the judgment. This is one of the most balanced judgments".
He emphasised that, "Indian Institute of Management is a centre of post-graduate studies and the judges have accepted our argument and have exempted the application of reservation in post-graduation studies". Salve said that, "Indian Institute of Technology may have the reservation for OBCs".
Elaborating on the reason behind his satisfaction with the judgment, Salve said, "We had been arguing on a number of issues. We wanted to bar the creamy layer from benefiting from the reservation. The Supreme Court has accepted our argument. We were arguing for the fresh identification of castes. The judges have agreed to do it as well. Because of the today's judgment, it will not be affordable for OBC students to avail the quota because of the criteria of creamy layer and fresh identification of castes".
Salve optimistically added, "The judgment may have validated and accepted the Constitution amendment law, but it has redrawn the law too" | | | | | The Following User Says NO Thank You to mdhiraj For This Un-useful Post:
