Re: SC Upholds OBC , Results likely to be delyaed - 10-04-2008, 05:48 PM

IIM A:
total seats (192 + 17 + 42 + 21 + with 192 for general category... = 280
so... for general category... seats were 192... competed for by 557 students (1/2.9 chance)
now these 557 guys... get to compete for 141 seats with an approx 1/4 chance....

students from the quotas: no. of students shortlisted = 54+106+20+8 = 188... compete for 139 seats... a 1/1.35 chance. (approx 3/4)

IIM C:
general cutoff for CAT 07 : 98.96 percentile
whereas a mere 85%ile would get u a call for int. if u had an extra sheet of paper in ur file.... it is obvious they were not even required to "prove themselves" worthy of a call

under the pretext of equality.... unfair justice is being delivered....

IIM Indore: 1247 general students... and of those (50% of approx 230 seats) i.e. 115 seats available....

i could go on and on with the statistics... just to prove that the gencat has always had a disadvantage even before this came in....

now if u talk about seat increase.... well... still it doesnt go in favor of the gencat. the number of seats increased will never be able to compare to the number of seats reduced from the gencat...

what sucks is the fact that it comes just a day before the actual results... so we'll never know whether we actually deserved it or not... if we get rejected....

another point: these guys raised the fees for PGP's and PGDM's and i read a lot of posts on the forum saying that PostGrad in India is "privileged" education that goes beyond basic education and that only a few get to enjoy that!!! QUOTA in a privileged EDUCATION goes beyond my head!!! never heard of Rolls-Royce having a quota for the underprivileged category...

Get to the depth.... or use options!

even if reservation criteria doesnot apply to IIMs,doesn't the judgment imply that other institutes of undergraduate studies like IITs would have to follow it? is it fair??

Dude, Tone it down....
If I'm not mistaken, the SC had rules earlier that Central Institutes can't have reservations over 49.8%... Hence the 27% for OBCs and not 28%... So it can't increase from hereon

hey puys, i feel that if the no. of seats for general candidates are fixed at their current level, then there should be no problems for us. Also, for our nation we do have very few seats, increasing seats for whatever reasons just helps the cause. and as far as dilution of quality is concerned, seats at the premier institutes are kept vacant if they dont find capable candidates, hence no doubts on that account.

so i feel we should not directly protest against such an implementation, unless we know the total judgement.

Well i would like to ask few questions

1) Would some ppl of OBC ppl getting into any IIM or IIT really helps in cast upliftment??
Are u trying to divide us rather thn uniting us by taking such stps???

2) Should much steps which provide solution at the root cause level be taken?? Providing education at nominal or free of cost.. We expect such steps from Govt rather than making reservation in Govt Instis?? Govt shud provide assistance to such students who want top pursue such studies by opening trainng centres so that these ppl can be trained to give JEE / CAT.. also underpreviliged ppl may be given coaching at nominal fees..take such steps rather thn bringing reservations.

Its a hard fact that majority of category students are not able to perform at the level expected at any IIT or an IIM, and this can be confirmed by the current / passed out B skoolers.

Till date we have certain category students who arent placed till last day of placements and then the IIM using their own back entry systems in getting such people placed.
All valid points & I take them..with respect to ur questions, I'll answer them in 2 voices : rhetorician's (politician) voice & R K Laxman's common man's voice ( he doesn't speak in the newspapers but here, he will )

rhetorician : India is a country of extremes. While at one end we have 4 of the top 10 richest people in the world, at the other we have 300 million below the poverty line. With this kind of schism, no country can walk on the path of sustained growth. The need of the hour, therefore, is to ensure that the benefits of growth are spread across various sections of the society. Particularly, we need to ensure that those classes of the society that suffered at the hands of 'caste system' for centuries together get a fair share of the pie. Reservation is one of the tools that help us accomplish this. Education goes a long way in addressing the injustice that was done to them. It removes the darkness of ignorance, instills a sense of confidence in the principle of 'natural justice' & helps them gain an even footing in the society.

common man : Admittedly, there are millions who were victims of injustice in the past. But does that mean reserving seats for a handful of them will uplift them?According to the judgement, 49.5% of our population falls under this category, there are about 500 million in this country who need to be brought into the mainstream. Assuming here that about 10,000 benefit from this system every year, they account for less than .003 % of the population. So who will take care of the rest ? When B R Ambedkar brought this idea, he came up with the rider that the system should be done away with in 15 years. More than 5o years have passed & only a handful actually remember this caveat. In the meantime, it has become an appeasement tool for our great politicians who seem to revel in using it overtime. The actual beneficiaries of this system are those who don't need anything but have this cloak called 'caste' to shield them!!

You can either agree with me,or you are wrong.......

Re: SC Upholds OBC , Results likely to be delyaed - 10-04-2008, 05:55 PM

Was seeing all the TV channels.

Almost 10-12 shameless politicians have mentioned that they feel "creamy layer" must be included and they will join hands with other political parties to see what can be done here. Includes guys like Anbumani Ramdoss, Sitaram Yechuri and all the "I don't have brains but baked beans in my head" & "what is self esteem? Never heard whats that" type of politicians.

How low can they get? When their sons and daughters can't avail the quota, they start squirming in their seats and shamelessly speak like this. God only knows where India is heading to.
