Kolkata: The six IIMs are considering releasing their admission/merit lists in the next seven days with the names of general category candidates. Only after further MHRD directives will the IIMs start the selection process for the OBC candidates as per the recent Supreme Court ruling.
“The IIMs appreciate the initiative taken by the MHRD and are mulling every possibility to include OBC students in the list. However, we are also aware of the problems the students might face because of the delay in publishing the admission list. So, we are exploring the option of releasing the admission/merit list by next week without the OBC candidates,” said Aashish Bhattacharya, former chairman of CAT, who is co-ordinating among the IIMs to decide on a date to release the merit list.
There is no instruction yet from the MHRD regarding the inclusion of OBC students in the admission list. “The six IIMs had earlier decided to release the admission list on April 11. Now, we are expecting to release it by next week, though without the OBC candidates,” confirmed Satish Deodhar, admission chairperson of IIM, Ahmedabad.

XLRI, Jamshedpur are in a dilemma. XLRI, which is among the country’s premier B-schools, has come out with its admission list and April 21 is the date of enrolment, when the students will have to deposit their admission fees of Rs 2.16 lakh. But, what if after taking admission there students find their names on the IIMs’ admission/merit lists?
“I have got calls from all the six IIMs. Accordingly, I had appeared for the interviews. The admission list for XLRI was published in the last week of March, in which my name featured. On Monday, we are supposed to deposit Rs 2.16 lakh as the admission fees for the first semester of the first year. My concern is, what if I also get through to any one of the IIMs? We will lose Rs 1,000 as per the AICTE rule and then, the remaining amount will take some time to be refunded. Many students may have to re-apply for loans,” said a worried Ankur Poddar.
The director of XLRIJamshedpur, E Abrajam, said: “As per the AICTE guideline, we will deduct Rs 1,000 and can only refund the rest of the amount sometime later.” “The IIMs will ask for the initial fee to be deposited, and the first instalment will be required to be paid only at the time of registration in June,” said Bhattacharya.

hi puys,
i talked to IIM lucknow rite now nd they said that meeting is going on and most likely the results wud be in two phases.

first without obc nd then obc in the follow up list once the whole process is over

wen asked abt d date he said that results are ready and if directors give go ahead then it will be out anytime very soon

so it all depends upon the directors now.....

HI PUYS...
there is one more news... i got a call from my home just now and my dad said that there is a news in "rajasthan patrika-rajasthan's no.1 news paper" regarding the results of iims. the news article says that iits have decided about reservation while iims not. and there will be at least 15 more days delayed before anybody can hear from iims.
can we believe this news. if this is then we are really in great trouble. puys like me if get selectd then have to resign from job. so in this case we will have great shortage of time.
did anybody call iim-a and asked about status? they can clear the picture

All the directors of IIT also had a meeting yesterday and the outcome was :-

The seven existing IITs in the country will implement 9% OBC quota from the 2008-09 academic session. However, the three new IITs in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan, which start operations from the coming session, will implement the entire 27% OBC quota at one go. For OBC students, the cutoff has been fixed at 90% of the cutoff for general category students.
The Joint Admission Board of JEE 2008, which includes the seven IIT directors as well as representatives from the HRD ministry, met in the capital on Wednesday to chalk out the quota roadmap. It was decided that the existing IITs will be able to implement 27% OBC quota only by 2010.
The seven IITs at Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mumbai, Roorkee, Guwahati and Chennai will also be increasing the number of seats by 13% this year so that the 9% OBC quota can be implemented without changing the number of seats for the general category students.
The three new IITs will have 120 seats each, of which 49.5% will be reserved. These IITs will be ‘mentored’ by IITs at Delhi and Kanpur.

The Joint Admission Board of IIT decided that after the merit lists of general category and OBC students are released, those seeking an OBC seat will be asked to furnish a certificate to prove their non-creamy layer status. Prasad clarified that an OBC candidate can seek a general category seat if he or she meets the required cut-off.
