For gross family income, I had entered my family's income excluding mine and they didn't question it.
The logic is that the candidate has to enter his renumeration on page 4 under Section D "Employment Record".

There were around 24 ppl called. they were to divide them into 3 batches. But only 8 turned up .. so a single batch was made.

2 engg freshers (including me), one commerce graduate (the only lady), and rest all with around 2 years workex in IT. (forgive me if i've missed someone).

i told of pressure and vol... not sure of temp...

P2 - you are interested in teaching right? yes.. do you see it as a career..

I - as a senior consultant..

P2 - consider that you are a consultant and are given a project of managing barbers in your town!!!!!!
I - told as much as i could.. completely grilled... but then... made the worst of blunders..

only 12 of the 30 people showed up.. so GD was in two panels with 6 people each..

GD: It was about a bank where a senior employee is an ex convict and has confided in one of the other employees and has been ratted upon. The VP of the bank fires the guy who ratted on the first chap and is challenged on that. we had to discuss the VP's options and course of action.

It was a good GD.. everyone got plenty of time to speak and put their ideas in.. it was one of the best GDs that i have been to in a long long time..

PI: There were 3 people in the panel.. i don't remember who asked what so i am just putting the questions in..

• Tell us about yourself and a few off shoots from there about things i have done.
• What is vector multiplication?
• Uses of vector multiplication?
• Different vector multiplication formulae?
• What is matrix multiplication?
• Why do we need it?
• Why do we not always multiply a nXn matrix with a nXn only?
• A question on the significant incident part and how have u incorporated what u have learnt from it?
• Questions on my intersts
• What attracts u towards formula1?
• You call yourself a F1 enthusiast. justify.
• What do u think of IPL and ICL?
• Should ICL be left out by the ICC?
• what is sensex?
• what is market capitalisation?
• Showed me a glass and asked me to give uses for it other than holding beverages.

• Will u be joining IIMS if u convert any of other IIMs?

I am not sure if i missed anything.. will add more if i remember. all in all i was pretty impressed with the process.. it was highly professional and the interview covered many areas. The mathematical questions were also connectable to what i have done. The panel was quiet friendly. They actually shared a good laugh when i said that the glass could make an interesting haloween costume.. the interview lasted for almost 30 mins.

i had my interview on 26th 2 pm at dadar catering college.....

it would take some time for me to write down the whole experience......
as i have returned to nagpur just now.....

some imp things:

we had an attendence of 15/30....
were divided in 2 groups for case study
and in 3 groups of 5 each for interview.....


topic of case study:

this firm does quite well in the first few years and then bags a very big contract worth 25 lacs from a company dpharm, the start working on the project, complete the sub syatem and give it to dpharm for trial, during trials a lot of problems crop up and the firm fixes all of them one by one.....

but because of this they are unable to complete the project in the given time, and ask dpharm for an extention of 8 months....

dpahrm says that they doubt the capacity of the firm and ask them to finish the project in 3 months....

now what should the software firm do??????
they are yet to recover enough money from dpharm even to cover up thir expences.....


it would take some time for me to write the pi experience....

i guess not more than 200 ppl attended the interview.....

at most 250......

and even of those who attended the interview....
more than half of them do not want to join......

Case study: Chemco Ltd appointed CCSOFT, a software firm to design its management/database or some crap system within 2 yrs. CCSoft completes only 40% of the work in the given time period. MD of Chemco comes to know about the same after 2 yrs.. What should chemco do..

Did turn out to be a fish market a couple of times.. But I think on the whole… we had a decent discussion.

P2-So what is this Duke of Edinburgh programme you had enrolled for?

P2- Ok. Ur company was in controversy recently. What was that for.
Me – Told about JP acquiring Bearstearns.. Initially offered $2 and then $10.
P2-Why was Bear Stearns acquired.
Me- Verge of bankruptcy et al.

Me- (stumped – pretty vague question)- Blabbered something. Was incorrect..
P2 joining – Ok is it possible for an expense to be variable and fixed as well.
Me-Sir, I’m not very comfortable with Cost accounting, Its been 3 years and I don’t even apply the same at my work place. So have completely lost touch..
P1-Give it a try..
Me- Pretended to think for a while and said.. No idea
P2- Once you’re done with the exams, u just forget what u’ve learnt?
Me-No Sir, its just that I don’t apply the same at my workplace. Infact I topped in cost accounting in college – but its just I’m not in touch with the subject

Me- About stats-sumthin like standard deviation – then we had something like optimization techniques but again since I’m not in touch with these subjects, really don’t know much about the same.

My chances seem to be very bleak.. My strength was my workex-but no questions on that.. couldn’t answer many questions on cost accounting.. could have done better but messed it up real bad..

Totally 12 people had come so we were divided into two groups of 6 each.

Topic:
A technical manager has placed order for a forging press which he believes will increase production. He convinced the top management and got approval for the Rs. 4 Crores investment. But a few months after he placed the order, the company had to undergo a lean phase. Now the top management asks him to cancel the order. Meanwhile the press is ready for delivery and he has been asked by the suppliers to inspect and take delivery. What should he do now?

Had a decent discussion for 15 min, everyone had enough time to speak. One good thing is that I started speaking first

There were three professors in the panel (P1 n P3 middle-aged, P2 – old prof). Me (M)

P2 – By taking long routes to avoid traffic jams, u’re actually increasing energy crisis
M – At first I say v use many public transport so not actually a problem
P2 – Still that vehicle adds to the problem
M – Well, even in traffic jams, ppl tend to keep their engines on, so that they can go quickly. By not killing the engines they don’t save energy. Thus taking a slightly long route will not add much to the energy problem

P3 – tell me abt rain water harvesting
M – Told
P3 – Aren’t u polluting ground water by sending contaminated rain water?
M – Not all rain water is contaminated
P3 – But in cities it is
M – Given enough time bacteria will help replenishing it
P3 – So if u add sewage in a river, then bacteria lives n fishes die. Why?
M – They fight for oxygen, biological oxygen demand decreases
P3 – Draw the graph for BOD decrease
M – Sorry I’m not sure about the trend
P3 – Are u sure it decreases?
M – Yes
P3 – And why do fishes die, if bacteria can thrive?
M – Bacteria utilize substances from sewage while fishes don’t. Also coz of the harmful substances produced by bacteria

M – Drew the usual lag, log phase one
P3 – remember this is not a culture; it’s a running water source
M – So any instant if it gets food, it will remain constant
P3 – so now whether the bacteria or the fish, which one lives?
M – It depends on what is the input given to the fish. A population size depends on strength of the enemy (competitor)

P1 - write the eqn for this graph (shows me the graph of rectangular hyperbola)
M – (I knew it involves constant c but couldn’t recollect) first wrote exponentially decreasing funcn.
P1 - What happens when x approaches zero?
M – Oh the funcn shouldn’t touch the axes. So I wrote y tends to 0 as x tens to infinity. Then I gave up

P3 – I read an article a few days back about how some thousands of years ago, they traced the population data of some place. Do u know abt DNA fingerprinting?
M – told
P3 – can’t u think of another technique to trace the population?
M – No I don’t have a clue
P3 – then how do u say humans have come from marine creatures?
