Puys,

I was talking to some of my colleagues yesterday, they also suggested DELL notebooks. But said that if service is an issue (am not saying DELL's service will be a problem.. but gotta confirm whether they can provide similar service in Trichy as well, similar to the one provided @ MICA as confirmed by SonY007 ), then HP wud be the ideal choice(performance is gud + services centres across the country) ...

Re: BIM Trichy Final Results Out - 30-04-2008, 12:03 PM

From wht i see the HP laptops are pretty basic in configuration and also bulky.Trust me a better laptop is one which is more compact that is why screen size 12.1 to max 14 should suffice. 15 and 17 inch screens just add to the bulk and weight and serve no purpose.

As far as the processor goes the latest processor series iv seen is T8* series so goin in for the T2* series which most hp comps have seems to be outdated. At least a T5* should be prefffered.

As mentioned some of the HP/compaq laptops have amd processors. These processors are faster than the intel ones but they do heat up much faster as well which means u cant keep the laptop on your lap too long.heheh.

But then reliabilty is an issue as well.HP offers the best reilabilty from the choices we have (hp acer compaq). So looks like we would have to compromise somewhere.Cause configuartion and value for money HP is not even close to Compaq and acer.

From the choices the compaq pressario B1200 seems to be the best.in terms of size processor and memory etc. Im not sure about how good or bad compaq laptops are.If neone can get information regarding its reliabilty i think this should be the one to go for.

rightly said..u can go for HP but not compaq ..i think they r overpriced for the same config as DELL..
as far as reliability goes...For acer u can have a prob-free time if u r lucky but then u nevr know whn it goes off..& u have to run to the service center for help..

compaq -i somehow dont feel its absolute value for money...
i have been comparing seriously laptop config & price for the last 1month & felt inspiron gives the best value for money thts why i choose it...

HP is good enuf..but just compare the config & see in how much u get all tht in DELL witha 5% discount..
The good thing abt DELL u dont have to take ur laptop to the center if need arises u only need to call & they will send u a service men..
i'll confirm this with the sales person & let u know.

yes u will get a 5% discount & VAT will be waived off..
but hey is ur price for the config u did in DELL site w/o taxes or inclusive of it..

this is wat the dell sales person replied whn i asked him about after sales service in Trichy ;
"When the person calls up from Trichy having a problem in the system the tech support will analyze the problem and they will trouble shoot the problem by phone,If its a replacement of any hardware or any other problem the Dell service engineer will visit the place with the spare part where ever the customer is located at that point of time."

Muzammil,

do u really feel that we wud really be needing such a config for a b-school?? I mean 250 Gb HD and 3mb ram.. .. My call is we can go for the Inspiron 1420 model itself.... wudnt it more than suffice our b-school needs.... And anyways, generally ppl go in for new laptops @ the end of 2 yrs... So why do we need such a high end config ??

What do u say guys???

Cheers

yes pradeep i agree with u..the config is a personal/individual choice..but u can do this upgrades in the inspiron1420 model & still go for the bulk deal with 5% discount & VAT waived off...~2K of discount..
my deal is applicable to Inspiron 1420 with N no.of upgrades u want..
so just check the present config..
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/1059592-post394.html

And if u just want it as it is it will cost u 38.25K (if u order by next week)
Also check the dell website for all the upgrades u can do on this model.

Re: BIM Trichy Final Results Out - 30-04-2008, 03:23 PM

its really your choice whther or not u choose to upgrade. without the upgradations the price would be much less.i only brought it up cause if u see the price comparisions (and yes the price i quoted was with taxes) without the bulk deal and taht toooo with much better cofigurations there isnt much of a difference. id suggest u too go to the dell site and check out the dell inspiron series with or without customisation. The price would come up after the procedure. After checking out the site im puzzled cause there really is a miniscule if any discount we r getting with the bulk deal.do visit the site and let me know wht u guys think.

Hmmm!!! The prices are almost similar... But there's a correction...the price is inclusive of delivery charges but exclusive of taxes.... so it might cost more!!
