What i meant by choosing GM is that u have the option of saying that u specialize in a particular area. After all the company is gonna screw u in those areas that u have specified. You can as well say that u havent specialized in any thing but did a general management by taking electives from diverse areas. Since BIM doesnt offer you a seperate specialization such as General Management and GM simply means u have electives across areas and not specific u have the freedom to put the specialization of ur choice when companies visit the campus. BIM doesnt stop u from doing so. Also it is not a requisite for u to specialize in something. BIM offers an MBA degree and not specific to core areas(Finance,Marketing....). It doesnt offer MBA(Finance),MBA(Systems) etc.., So u have the freedom to choose electives of ur choice. You might have specialized in Finance but as well attend companies offering IT profile(its upto u to impress the interviewer).
Hope its little more clear, else revert back

So, as far I understand, by adopting the mix-n-match method, you can achieve a general management profile. The advantage of this would be that you could opt for companies offering variegated profiles..!!
The important thing being, that BIM by itself does not restrict candidates to apply on basis of the courses opted for...its directly between the company and the candidate, which should be the right way..!!
Ofcourse, I am not saying anything new, just repeating whats been said earlier..!!
One more thing which perturbs me is that marketing profiles are offered only to freshers ??? So, if I have a solid IT experience, would I be considered as a fresher for marketing profiles ??
And how do the summer placements come into the picture, if my summers was in marketing, can I finally be placed in finance or vice versa ?? And what is the criterion for summer placements, as we wont have picked up our specialisations before that ??
Sorry for troubling ull, seniors..!!!

1. Has BIM never conducted laterals separately from its general ones.
2. If not, why has it been mentioned on its site? No, it was not in their brochure but on their site but when I tried to get back to my source, the site is not opening up, though it's not making me feel panic.
3. Are u from BIM 24 or 23? (In ur previous post, I took u to be this yrs candidate)
4. If this is the case then, is that specialization thing true, have u experienced any such instance of showing your specialization in an area in spite of not having majority of subjects in the same?
These are really bugging me now.
Sorry for any inconvenience | I am from BIM23. To my knowledge-BIM has not conducted lateral placements. We have been pressing this issue. But the reason for not having seperate placements is for the benefit of the company.Companies just visit the campus once and finish off the placement process. There has been no need for lateral placements to happen separately since the purpose is being solved. Though the companies have their own criteria for shortlisting students.
regarding specialization- yes it is true-it is only advantageous to the students. The students have various options bcoz of this. There are institutes where in students specializing in a particular core area(say marketing)are allowed to sit for companies specific to the core area only. Here u have the freedom to choose companies of ur choice, thou one might specialize in marketing he may not want to miss out an opportunity when Deloite or KPMG visits the campus.
we are here to answer ur queries-so feel free to post ur queries, pl do not hesitate.

Profile issue cud be handled only by seniors I guess.
About your take on fees hike, it may or may not be the case. Take FORE for instance, we all know that it has not hiked its fees atleast since two yrs but it has changed its policy for accepting fees in this period.
Bcoz as far as I remember, FORE asked for jus 25k so as to secure admission for 2006-08 session (I was offered FORE seat in 2006 ) but this year we all know it's asked for 1.05 lacs.
I am not sure if it's a policy change or a fee hike in BIM? Hope its the former

We know that BIM has the dream company concept...whereby you could sit for ur dream company even if u have been already placed, provided the whole batch has already been placed..!!
Would you like to add on the above ??

Sorry for troubling ull, seniors..!!! | Hi varun,
I didnt mean that marketing profiles are offered only to freshers, but preference is given to freshers. Not all companies have this criteria but a majority does. Students having experience not relevant to the companies requirement would most probably be considered as freshers. Unless u r fed up with the work u r doing rite now and want a change,it is only intelligent to choose companies that recogonises ur previous work.
Regarding your second query-yes that is possible. Summers helps u gain knowledge abt a particular industry. It in no way constrains u to choose ur final placement area.Though u may need to tactfully handle the interviewer when he questions "Why finance now after opting for marketing during summers?"
Looks like u guys are in a rush . Most of these questions arise during the end of first year(even bim24 didnt query as much now). Nice to see so much enthu. Hope it continues all thru 2 yrs.
Dinesh
We might tentatively have a pre-induction meet between the alumni/seniors and the fresh batch during the month of June. So those who have personal queries can chip in then. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to dinesh_su For This Useful Post:
