Again, the companies would grill you on the finance part of ur IT job, btw are you from commerce background...doubt whether engineers get offered such finance positions in IT companies...and Keane I guess is a consulting MNC..!!
Btw, I would like to know how you got info from Nirma seniors, coz they have completely disappeared frm PG as well as the campus when I had been to nirma for my interview....the result too is taking ages to come....smell something fishy there..!! | Hey Varun,
Thnx again for ur unabated appreciation... but reasoning... am not sure.. only time wud tell
I too tend to agree with u now, after the post from Kitchu especially. Eligibility will be driven more by the companies than BIM itself... sounds logical but sometimes institutes have the commanding power over companies & students and also things like BIM's eligibility condition for laterals on their website intrigues u.
@Kitchu
Although I trust your source but just to confirm, wud like to give u a head-raiser on BIM's mention of its eligibility condition on their site. Plz let me know if I am mistaken n apology for the inconvinience.

As far as picking up one from each head, wont it become like jack of all trades n joker of none...as in aren't the companies looking for people who have specialised in one/two of the streams ??
Also, the other perspective cud be that you learn as much as possible, but shall the corporates appreciate that, n do companies offer general profiles, someone like Tata Administrative Services or so ??
Thanks in advance,

Batch 25 [2008-2010] | hi there,
its more the way u look at it.Its just that u r open to everything.Specializing only in a particular stream locks u to attend only specific companies during placements thou u r allowed to sit for any company, a person having majore only in finance and has marketing as minor would not be fit to attend a company profiling in Systems/HR as it would be impossible to answer the questions(unless u r a genious).
Moreover u have the freedom to alter ur specialization according to the company visiting. For instance, having taken electives from all core areas, i hve the freedom of putting finance as my specialization when a finance company visits the campus, similarly my resume can be altered to a Marketing or Systems/HR specific company. One wouldnt get this freedom if u have only one major and a minor.
Hope this helps

Am not sure whether we're getting it right or not. As far as I know, if u don't have any majority of subjects of a particular area with you, u can't say u're specialized in that. It is not on our whims and fancies I guess but the composition of ur electives that decides. So, if we're selecting a subject each from all areas then we wud not be specializing in any but doing a general mgt. Things wud be clearer when some seniors join in again.
I request Seniors to clarify the viewpoint here

Thnx much | Hi there,
I hope I can answer ur question.
BIM doesnt have seperate lateral placements.Atleast we didnt have them seperately. Prob. it could be introduced in ur batch(if such has been mentioned in ur admission brochure). Companies lay the criteria for recruitment.BIM as such,so far, didnt have n e condition seperately for lateral placements. Some finance/IT companies specifically ask for students having prior work ex. Most marketing companies seek only freshers(this is universal across institutes).
All placements happen at the same time.So there is no seperate date for freshers or laterals. All students are invited to attend the presentation made by the companies at the end of which their requirements is announced, accordingly students apply.
Well all these trouble after u spend a year and a half hear. Y worry so soon. Enjoy the next couple of months at home..expect more when u come here.
Students who have been provisionaly selected may as well discuss in the Yahoo group created bim25 : BIM 25th Batch (2008-2010)
one can discuss more freely there.

I request Seniors to clarify the viewpoint here | Yup accepted what u say- u cant say that u specialice in a particular area unless u take majority of subjects from that area.
What i meant by choosing GM is that u have the OPTION of saying that u specialize in a particular area. After all the company is gonna screw u in those areas that u have specified. You can as well say that u havent specialized in any thing but did a general management by taking electives from diverse areas. Since BIM doesnt offer you a seperate specialization such as General Management and GM simply means u have electives across areas and not specific to a core area u have the freedom to put the specialization of ur choice when companies visit the campus. BIM doesnt stop u from doing so. Also it is not a requisite for u to specialize in something. BIM offers an MBA degree and not specific to core areas(Finance,Marketing....). It doesnt offer MBA(Finance),MBA(Systems) etc.., So u have the freedom to choose electives of ur choice during every trimester. If u specialize in systems during the 4th trimester u can as well drop systems electives in the 5th trim.
With regard to placements you might have specialized in Finance but as well attend companies offering IT profile(its upto u to impress the interviewer).
Hope its little more clear, else revert back

one can discuss more freely there. | Hey Thnx Dinesh
But I am more perplexed now after your attempt of bringing in more clarity. The confusions are:
1. Has BIM never conducted laterals separately from its general ones.
2. If not, why has it been mentioned on its site? No, it was not in their brochure but on their site but when I tried to get back to my source, the site is not opening up, though it's not making me feel panic.
3. Are u from BIM 24 or 23? (In ur previous post, I took u to be this yrs candidate)
4. If this is the case then, is that specialization thing true, have u experienced any such instance of showing your specialization in an area in spite of not having majority of subjects in the same?
These are really bugging me now.
