Now what I felt is there are several issues related to CAT goin online...
First n d foremost thing which I realize is the RC section...Its noway possible for an online module to pacehold for 500-600 word long passages and following ques!!! there are so many catches there...firstly one cant mark/underline on d comp. screen!!! secondly its not very convenient to navgate through d pages back n forth... probably they'd change it to sum relatively small passages....
n may b they'd introduce more grammar,reasonin/vocab questions instead...
and collectively I feel that navigating thru' d pages would b an issue...
otherwise things r goin 2 b smooth I feel

GMAT vs CAT(Online) .... some personal views
**********************************
1. In India the number of GMAT takers w.r.t. CAT takers is abysmally low. So there never arose a need to have more and more centers in India where people can take GMAT. Many states don't have one. But in case of CAT (as the CAT takers are very widespread), there will be a need for CAT Online centers in every state, that too having an average capacity of around 5000-6000 in smaller states(by population) and 14000-15000 in larger states. This is a huge task. It's quite impossible that so many centers can be created within a year. Even if they use the centers used by GMAT takers, the task is still difficult.
2. The online test can also be taken by International students.
3. Let's say it's possible i.e. CAT becomes Online CAT. Then
1. It'll have to be taken multiple times a year.
Reason is that once this system of online CAT is in place, this whole process of multiple exams will be a money spinner for the IIMs. Note that the fees of the colleges have been raised by a huge amount. Secondly, it'll be easier to manage the number of takers, if they are spread throughout the year. The fee for the exam will also increase.
2. It'll be an adaptive test with everyone getting a different collection of questions as picked from a question database.
This is because an exam 3-4 times a year with all different questions is next to impossible.
3. It will be score based and not percentile based.
4. Since the number of people with good scores will skyrocket (ek attempt to accha jayega hi), so the calls will not only depend on CAT score, but profile also. Work-experience guys have a little edge here.
5. All in all the whole end to end process will get more competitive and tough.
