Ideally chairman would have said the correct thing..however if you see pratically,there should be enough faculties availabile to handle that many students(this is written somewhere in brochure also)..I hope now u understand why there is difference of opinion between admission committeed and students....

Sorry to say for FT people, only specisalisations allowed are mkt and ops. And yes there are major and minors. I dont why Sherry sir said what has been mentioned, but the ground reality is certainly different.

On this latest development only this I have to say --

Since there is a separate course for PGDM(Finance), students there will be given preference for Finance jobs than students in IB or FT(if indeed we can specialize in Finance in that). Otherwise the whole meaning of keeping a separate Finance specialization beats me. They may be allowed to sit for Finance companies but will not be given preference as compared to PGDM(Finance) students. At least logically thinking that should be the case.

There is no official term like major or minor. it is just the selection of electives. out of 17 electives we have to select 10 electives from our spec. and 7 from any specialization. since we read 7 elec. of other spec., we call it minor(unofficially).

I don't know much about the IMT placement procedure but can share the experience when I was placement coordinator in my collg(engg. collg). Whenever a company visits,they mention their requirements related to branch,skills etc and placement committee sends the list of students matching their criteria. In IMT's case suppose a company XYZ is coming and has requirement in finance field, so IMT will send the list of all the people however since the company has the requirement of finance they will look only at list of finance students. however some companies are not very specific about the specialization of the student and so they allow other specialization students as well.

This is what I can think of based on my experince in my engg collg however I don't have any idea about the IMT placement process.

I am currently pursuing MBA from IMT G, as far as I know, FT means doing specialisation in MKtg/ops in 2nd year
probably admission dept told that "all students will be studying all subjects in the 1st year" but at the end of the 2 years, u will be offered marketing/ops profile in 90% of the cases in the placement scenario....

Can u please clarify one thing.If we do our major in allocated stream.And for our remaining electives we dont go for any specialize stream , for instance some subjs of marketing + IT, then how does companies coming for placements look into this?
Is it considered good or is it better to opt for particular streams minor electives.

first the company comes with a requirement for it
for eg say finance, it will look for all the fin major people
but by that time if most of the fin people are placed then they will be opening for other people with fin minors...
i think u got the point of doing minors advantage now.
so the possibility of getting the job of ur minors helps in the profile u prefer. its all abt the profiles not the company, even Bank of america has IT profiles, Infosys has fin profiles, Kotak mahindra has mktg profiles and Mahindra n Mahindra has fin, HR profiles ,they will ask according to the profiles in their companies.
its an MBA dude, it all depends upon the functional aspects not the companies.
