[quote=samadhan;1036669]Whats the use of taking the CAT,if you are using such a stringent criterion for the selection. In my university even the university topper does not gets more than 72%.
I think this is not fair in the diverse country like India where, every university has different criteria of giving the grades. | | | | | | | |

Here is how it goes :
" The Editor, I have applied to RGIIM-Shillong. I have gone through the admission criteria and I find the following bit unfair: “Gen & OBC: Number of Candidates who are in the 80th percentile or higher in score in each section, are in 85th percentile or higher in total score, and percentage of marks in undergraduate >= 80.” The link for the same is Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Managment, Shilong Please have a look. I have pursued engineering in Electronics from Mumbai University and I have scored 64.7% in B.E. Here at Mumbai University even toppers get around 75% in B.E. Getting more than 80% for undergraduate degree in Engineering from Mumbai University is an extremely miraculous phenomenon which may not be the case with many other universities. We all know that different universities have different marking tendencies and there is no uniformity to it. In addition, RGIIM has clearly mentioned its eligibility criteria on its webpage. The link for the same is Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Managment, Shillong “ The candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45 % in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ or Persons with Disability (PWD) category], of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.” The newly prescribed eligibility criteria tells a different story altogether. There is an aberration in the selection criteria as well. “Selection: Candidates are short-listed for Group Discussions and Personal interviews on the basis of their performance in CAT/GMAT, academic record and relevant work experience. Final selection to PGP would be based on criteria, such as the candidate's academic record, scholastics achievements, relevant work experience, performance in CAT/GMAT, group discussions and personal interview. ” Again the link for the same is Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Managment, Shillong The new selection criteria for the 2008-2010 batch reveals nothing about the work-experience being taken into account. We believe the IIMs signify the epitome of the Indian education system and have earned us many an accolade in the past. But such indiscretion on their part would certainly move the faith of a myriad IIM aspirant and may very well serve to be a blot on the shining image of the IIMs. Therefore, I would request you to visit these RGIIM selection criteria and bring this injustice to the notice of thousands of IIM aspirants around the country and the world via your popular news network. This would serve to open the eyes of the management of IIMs to be more vigilant in describing eligibility criteria at present and in the future. This will also help us aspirants of RGIIM tremendously and may very well provoke the RGIIM management to come up with a new shortlist and selection criteria. Seeking your active cooperation. Regards, Kamal"
