Re: [2008] IIM Bangalore GD/PI Experiences - 25-03-2008, 07:59 PM

Apologies for posting late

Interview Date: 21 March,IHC Delhi,2:00 PM

Profile:
X: 84.2
XII: 86.2
Grad: 77.6
CAT 99.50%ile

3 year work Ex...in IT company

GD: Abt Email and Mobile communication in professionals...Is it boon or bane for them?

Duration 10 Min for Studying the GD
We were 9 ppl ...one was absent.Decent GD.All chipped in.No fish Market.Ample time to discuss...Duration 20 Min

10 Min to write summary and the 2 questions.Influential person and Why IIMB's PGP in your career goals?

Interview:

I was 4th one to be called.

1st person was grilled on Work Ex
2nd on Extra Curr
3rd I dunno...was 13 Year Work Ex Deputy General Manager in BSNL
4th : Yours truly

P1 and P2

Most of the questions were asked by P1 and P2 asked just one question in the end about why I choose the particular personality for the most influential person?

P1 grilled me on various aspects.

Start with My surname Jindal and was I related to the Jindal Group. And questions about Family Tree and whether it is possible to have same surname with different root at the highest level...2 min(approx)

He then asked about my opinion of the GD.When I said it was a decent and peaceful GD,with most of the points covered but 1-2 remaining. He asked me to list all the points.
I told him ones which I think were not discussed.I told 5-6 ..and he kept on asking...Nthen I said I don't know any more....Here I think was the turning point of my interview.
In retrospect,he wanted me to say again one point about 'Cross Culture Differences' which I raised during GD and was one of the strongest points of the whole GD.I dunno I was completely blanked off in interview abt this particular point. And I knw (Now having this Gut feeling and instinct that he wanted to grill me on this Culture thing)And it wud have been a gr8 interview...But since I missed...So here is what happened thereafter...

He asked me about my present work.4-5 minutes grilling and he convinced me that the work which I am doing is very-2 routine and not challenging at all.

Here comes the ultimate point of my interview:

So you are a Computer Engg.
Yups
Tell me about compilers...I told
Now my requirement is to have a Language independent and Hardware independent Compiler:confused:...Design it for me...3 yrs since I left studies...N compiler design of all the things.Bowled out.Blabbered sth...But was not convincing...4 minutes...Kept on grilling...he shayad was Exasperated and said...Okies I got what U wanna tell

Do you knw abt Memory Paging?
I am gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A bit sir...I tried to explain...Whole memory management of the OS was discussed of which I last studied 4 yrs back...Had a very vague idea.Again not a very good performance.Again faltered on when he asked how hashing is used in Memory management...said sth...But I was not sure.

He then passed me to P2 who asked just one question as mentioned earlier.

Duration was approx 20 -22 minutes...

And It was over. And I am not satisfied at all.One of the most imp interviews of my life .
Cud have done so much better...But then...Its only that far that you can go.Limits...Yeah Limits are there.I now know. All the time I was preparing on Work ex,why MBA types,SOP based questions and what I was asked was Acads...which was not my best bet for IIMB.:(

Shayad isi ko Destiny kehte hain...Took sm time to come out of it.And now looking fwd...Hope sustains life...And I am here to live...

One thing abt the panel. Most professional atmosphere.
And when I was interacting with Profs...lag raha tha ki IIM B ke Profs hain.Aura or watever, they were very learned, distinguished and professional.Cool thru'out the interview. Was very much impressed with them.

IIM B or no IIM B ...I have my lifetime experiences and my learnings. And believe me...Its been a helluva experience.Came to knw so much abt me and myself...

With this the end of season for me.And wait for the results...
Long mail ...
God Bless u Puys and all the very best to everybody.

The King will Return...

Re: [2008] IIM Bangalore GD/PI Experiences - 25-03-2008, 10:30 PM

I know this is not the time to post for you guys, but i think you are forgetting the selection criteria.

CAT-20
Xth Class- 15
XII Class- 10
Grad- 15
Work-ex - 5
GD-7.5
GD Summary:7.5
Interview- 20

Total=100

So now you must be recalling how people with screwd interviews get selected. So dont be dipressed by ur interview performances, its only one fifth of the total job.

Cheer up and celebrate

PSosted just to relieve you (I know u already know the critieria but just reminding )

Re: [2008] IIM Bangalore GD/PI Experiences - 26-03-2008, 10:02 AM

Hi,
Did anybody have their GD/PI yesterday or the day before (25th or 24th March)
I want to know if they are still asking about your career plans and how IIMB fits into it and also about the most influential person of the 20th Century

And from the GD topics I see it looks like it is a morph of topic and case based GD (topic based ones in form of cases)

Could any body(who had their GD) clarify whether the GD was more of knowledge based one or a pure case based one (where you just have to stick to the case and there is no need for extra information)

Forgot to reply your second question in the last post..
Yes you are absolutely right, they are giving Topic-based GDs framed like case studies..
Stated in one line, my GD "Case" was
{What do you favor? Promoting growth in agricultural sector in India or growth in industrial sector in India?}

How long was the actual case?...what other details did they give in the case apart from posing the question below?

@People who have had their gd's- can you please post as much detail on the case as you remember?- would be much appreciated.
