10 min to think (seemed like an eternity, 15 min to discuss (an even bigger eternity), 10 min to write (noooo time whatsoever; barely managed to finish the summary and the other 2 Q's)
topic:
The Preaching Employee
Ajay runs a software company that is involved in security systems. A year ago, on the recommendation of his brother, he hired his nephew, Anthony, to work for him. Anthony used to be a wayward person until a little more than a year ago. He used to sit around at home, watching TV and living off his parents (arent most of us doing the same thing??). But due to certain incidents that happened about a year back, he turneed to religion. After that, his attitude towards life changed and he decided to clean up his act. He then started to work for his uncle. During the time that he was with his uncle's company, he proved to be an exceptionally hard worker. Everyone was pleased with his dedication.
But, there has been a cause for concern as well. Anthony has taken upon himself to preaching to others, trying to convince them of the advantages of prayer. Unfortunately, this has not gone down too well with most of his colleagues. They have begn to resent his intrusion into what they consider their private space. Some of them have even complained to the management regarding Anthony's behaviour.
What should Ajay do about Anthony?
the discussion was quite peacful ... there werent too many points to discuss, and practically all aspects were covered. I had an average gd; came in thrice, with 1-2 points & supporting statements. didnt have much airtime though :( the group ended up repeating the points towards the end. i could have and should have had a better gd.
PI
was the 1st person to be interviewed. PI lasted for ~25 min (thats wat the ppl outside told me)
p1: 1st prof (to my left)
p2: 2nd prof (to my right)
m: me
(note - no one checked the originals in my case, but the panelists had photocopies of all the documents)
p1: so ... ur industrial training is on Curing of pasted battery plates (i had done my 3rd yr industrial training at exide industries limited, shamnagar). So tell me what is Curing?
m: started explaining ...
p1: (interrupting) no tell me, what is Curing in general?
m: ??????
p1: what in general do u mean by curing?
m: (finally reembering the dictionary definition) blah blah
p1: now explain what exactly did u do in the project?
m: blah blah blah (spoke for nearly 2 min uninterrupted)
p1: u compared the theoretical values with practical values. what are these?
m: explained what i meant by theoretical & practical values, used to find efficiency of the process. also gave a numerical example taking arbit values
p1: was your model theoretically correct?
m: (???) ya, all equations are theoretically given in international journals blah blah blah
p2: so can u tell me any recent technological innovations in battery technology?
m: (uh oh) mentioned about the use of polypropylene cases, recycling of old batteries (couldnt think of anything else)
p2: what other types of batteries do u know of?
m: Ni-Cd, Hg etc etc
p2: so what are these batteries used for? y cant we use them for the same use as lead acid batteries?
m: talked about low potential
p2: (interrupting) low? even lead acid batteries produce only 12V
m: said that its relative ... others produce far lower voltages which are used in devices like watches (Hg battery) or the pencil batteries used in digicams and various other devices (Ni-Cd etc). whereas lead acid batteries used in automobiles, inverters etc (forgot to mention that these can give high currents as well which the others can't)
p1: so what alternative battery sources can be used in cars for running them fully without using petrol/diesel?
m: (???) talked about solar panels ...
p1: there are cars running fully on battery power right?
m: yes
p1: what type of battery is used in them?
m: (mar gaye) i dont know sir
p1: u dont know? u worked in a battery company ... they must have told u about the threats posed by these cars?
m: no sir ( y on earth will they tell me??)
p1: recently in kolkata itself some people have made a car which can run fully on battery... u must have heard about it. they want to market this as a rival to nano. what type of battery does it use?
m: (???? ye kab hua????) sir i dont know, but i can take a guess ... possibly some similar sort of battery as lead acid batteries (a veery wild guess)
p1: come on .... those people must have told you something about that ...
m: (totally clueless) i dont know sir (can we get out of batteries??)
p2: (checking my form, and seeing the date of training, and then telling p1) ok he did his training in may-june, in that time this news hadnt come out
p1: ok ... then u may not have heard about it
m: (??? when was such a car made??? no more battery questions please)
p1: so u r from chemical engineering ... tell me the products obtained from a crude distillation unit.
m: (finally)blah blah
p1: so which is more expensive .. diesel or petrol?
m: diesel (am quite sure about this)
p1: but in the market isnt petrol more expensive?
m: explained about govt determined price ... diesel being used by poor in tractors, diesed pump sets, generators, so with an eye on votebank, price is deliberately kept low
p2: so who is the votebank?
m: ????
p2: i mean who is the votebank? the poor who use diesel or the middle class who use petrol?
m: (ye kya hai??) both (gr8 ans)
p1: so why is diesel more expensive?
m: mentioned about greater treatment to remove sulphur; more sulphur in heavier components etc etc .. not very sure of this though but it is a fact that diesel is more expensive
p1: desulphurisation is done before refining and not after
m: no sir it is done after refining
p1: no. crude from bombay high is 1st desulphurised at hazira then sent for refining.
m: (almost smiling ... ye to obvious psyching strategy hai) no sir it is done afterwards ... each component has diff sulphur contents and diff regulatory requirements and hence it is done afterwards; moreover if it was done before refining, the size of the desulphurisation unit would be immense and impractical
p1: (satisfied ... hopefully) so u were telling me about govt regulation of prices. so in an unregulated market, would diesel be more expensive?
m: yes
p1: sure?
m: yes
p2: under all circumstances?
m: (finally understanding the question) only if demand of both products are equal (actually i wanted to say that demand and supply were equal, but somehow didnt get my words right)
p1: whr is diesel used?
m: blah blah
p2: and petrol?
m: balh blah
p2: so the market price will be higher, what about cost of production?
m: ???
p2: (repeats Q)
m: explained diff between market price and cost of production
p1: so dont u think that with petrol cheaper, and more cars on the road, petrol will ultimately become more expensive?
m: blah blah (possibly, but diesel is used in buses, trucks, heavy transport, tractors etc etc. also, iocl plans to import diesel this yr to meet domestic requirements)
p1: ok .... so u have written adolf hitler as the most influential person of the 20th century. (reading out loud) blah blah blah ..... whew you have attributed a lot to hitler. how do u think he was responsible?
m: (yeahhhhh ... he can read my handwriting

) briefly described whatever points i had written in there ... there were quite a few

p1: so how do u think hitler was responsible for the israel palestine conflict ... indirectly as u say?
m: blah blah (spoke for quite some time about the reasons for the creation of israel)
p1: but i heard that most of the jews settling in israel were from russia ..
m: blah blah
p1: so is israel's population still growing?
m: yes ... as birth rate is higher than death rate (gr8 ans) .. not sure of emigration values although immigration is probably higher
p1: ok that will be all ... send the next person in
m: thank you sir
my take: GD was average, and i dont expect much from there, sumary was decent. about PI ... i dont really know .... while i answered acads & hitler questions quite well, the battery portion wasnt that good, as i couldnt answer some of the questions. still ... hoping for the best .... waiting for the 11th .... puys and seniors please respond about my chances.
