about me..
BE with 4.5 yrs of Exp at IBM
Have been in the US for the past 1.5 yrs and will be coming back, to join the school. The reason why ive mentioned this is to reiterate my belief in Great Lakes. yes, the school is functioning from a temp building and may not have good num of faculty, but as someone mentioned earlier, the truth is we couldn't get into IIMs. I'm prety sure that in the coming years, great lakes will be no lesser than IIMs or ISBs..
The reason why "I" choose to join Great Lakes is..

1: US Economys heatlh is not all that Good. Working here is fine, but studying is not advisable under present circumstances. I dont want to mortgage my home in India and study abroad, for which the returns, or even a getting job in US is looking bleak. I prefer to add wealth, to my wealth

2:Indian Economy is growing, and I hope it wont follow US where ever it goes ! in short, things in India aren't that bad as in US. So getting a decent Job wont be a problem. Also, the schools in India have campus placement options, which is good.

3: I need a one yr MBA. the ROI from ISB is less in comparison to Glakes. Glakes is about 1/3 rd the cost of ISB. Also, i feel its too much of a crowd at ISB, with the strength of 400+. So Great lakes fits the bill correctly for me.

4: I'm in touch with Glakes alumni and they are doing great in their jobs. Once you step in corporate world, its entirely on you to prove yourself and the college that you are from shouldn't matter much.

These are my thoughts and reasons as to why i choose Glakes.
regarding the blogs or ppl complaining about great lakes, I care less. To all the apprehensive/doubtful minds, Just question what you want and look at the trade offs. Great lakes is coming up with a good campus, else they wouldn't put the photo on the front page of their brochure !. Once establised, you wouldnt regret being part of this upcoming school. I beleive students had the same dilema while joining ISB or IIMs in its formative years.
My gut feeling tells me to go for Great lakes, what does yours say ?
Spoke to a couple of the Glakers this evening... The placements are still not complete... on the whole, they have been fairly decent... with ppl of around 3yrs work-ex getting arnd 9 lacs package...Wassay admitted PUYS???

Hi Guys,

After paying the first 50K instalment, what is the time frame for the next 6L ? is it going to be a one time payment? when do we get all the docs from the school to go to banks for loan etc?

Thanks and Regards

Hi Ravi

Thanks for the post. This is realy wonderful and makes lot of sense.
I have pretty much same profile as urs (4.5 years, working with a US telecom major in Blore) and in fact exactly same reason to join GLakes.
I am not keen on US MBA.

It meets my objective(I never dreamt of McKinsey, BCG nyways) of getting in Business side of IT services and move out of delivery eventually. And this seems to be right platform. And one of the greatest ROIs for that.

Moreover the good news is that , people with work ex of around and over 4 years(3-5 yrs) has drastically increased this year. So GLakes is happening for sure. It would definitely reflect in the placements next year also.

I truly believe in teh school.Look at the profile of students getting in. CAT, GMAT cutoffs have been better than most of established top B schools in India.
All the best to all and see u guys there. !!

Re: Great Lakes Batch 2009 - 11-03-2008, 05:54 PM

What I think is that since Great Lakes has an experienced set of people; to get the suitable profile for each student becomes a slightly time consuming affair.Which is understandable. That's the reason the placements have not got over yet ( as someone had put it) . Think in ISB , it's more or less the same story . It's a more matured process in these handful of institutes and hence the time. I mean all of us would want to have a clarity of role etc before accepting it . And that takes time. Maybe 1 interview takes 45 mins on an average,
On the other hand ,the other Indian BSchools, where majority of the junta are freshers or less than a year experienced people, the placements get over very quick. That's quite understandable again. One just needs to have an idea about which sector (s)he wants to get into. Companies come and if the stud is liked by the firm, (s)he is in. 10-15 mins average time per interview. It's more of a receiving role that the studs in those schools play.
Anyone thinks otherwise?

Hi Seniors,

At the risk of sounding like a nerd and a bookworm (both of which im not) im goin to ask this qn.

Im from tech background with close to zero knowledge on finance subjects. Is there some reading up that we need to do before classes commence so as to reduce the blow? If so, please suggest some books/site for this.

Im asking this cos i was adviced by a few MBAs that it would be prudent to do so.

Thanks and Regards
