Re: Great Lakes Batch 2009 - 10-03-2008, 06:30 PM

Dear All,

I've been selected .I would be taking up the offer and will hit Chennai on the 22nd of April to add an year of hope, slog , bleary eyes, aspiration, dreams and institute building .
My trip so far : ICSE '98 -> XII( 2000) -> B.Tech.(NIT ,Trichy '2004) -> Manufacturing (The Linde Group) ,2.5yrs -> Consulting ( 1.2 years) ->CAT 07 ( around 96 %ile ( sectionals : ~ 97,93,80 )

Been through a few randomly picked posts. Someone had just commented about the institute being the size of a house . Now , it's a four year old institute and if you look at the profiles of the students studying out there ( check their website ) , it would be clear that the guys are getting better and better over the years. A large number of them are from the best of engineering/arts/commerce/IT colleges and/or having experience in the best of companies as well. Now, do you really think that they would put their backgrounds at stake and start studying in a "house" . Do you think they have not checked the infrastructure facilities and blindly said "yes" to the admission offer ?
May the best of brains join Great Lakes .The onus lies on us( along with the faculty) to make it the biggest thing . Trust . It's possible . Since the students run the insti , we shall run it and run it into glory .

See you in Chennai.

Since ur asking for a clarification , go through my following post which i posted in the admissions thread. While PG is certainly meant to discuss things openly , its not a platform to cast aspersions on any institute. While discussing kindly keep that in mind...

First thing first dude........i dont know by posting that ridiculous blog here in the forum how ur helping the cause of other guys here. Apart from the fact that like last time the claims smack of a personal vendetta and is certainly not a handiwork of an insider ( as claimed by our frustrated-cheap publicity seeking blogger) its also against Pagal guy forum rules to post negative comments about any MBA college. I would appreciate if u keep that in mind next time u decide to bring outside dirt to P.G.

Secondly if u want reply then my buddy Bhaski has already has posted wht he thinks about the issue http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/b-scho...t-mgmt-85.html (Life @ Great Lakes Inst. of Mgmt-Chennai)

However let me share my own opinion on this mate. Frankly speaking i can rip apart every argument given by this outsider claiming to be insider. Not because i am good at doing it but simply because what he has stated are facts which either are so commonly known that it is on our website or are blatant lies. The real question however is that as a reputed institute which is growing at an incredible pace does GREAT LAKES need to issue a justification every time an anonymous frustrated blogger decides to kill his time by writing a blog??? My answer to that ppl is an emphatic NO. Its our word against a nobody l (who btw himself is not clear about his own identity!!) and its on u puys to take a call. Frankly speaking if sumone is so chicken hearted to get terrified by negative comments then i would ask them to reconsider their decision of getting into management profession as life wont be bed of roses here and success will bring with its own set of critics.

Great Lakes in next few years will be among the top B-schools of the country doomsdayers not withstanding ......its a fact which will unfurl in years to come. I leave it to the maturity and discretion of ppl who have got calls from GL to be a part of that journey or not......

hey..
u got it all wrong mate... sorry once again...but the very fact why i posted that msg was to reinstate this fact only...that merely by forbidding puys to post such comments will not serve the purpose... we need people like u...people who are working IN the system.. to come up and justify...we need people like u to come up and dispel all clouds of uncertainity...and buddy...we all hv been taught that taking feedbacks (be it positive or negative) is the most lethal weapon in a manager's armour. its not a matter of being terrified as u pointed...its a proactive approach...a war is won not by acting brave and stand in the enemy's line of fire ...its won by dem who r smart enuf to preserve demself and strike at the rite time...neways, we r not here to discuss all dis...
to get it right, my intention was simply to let the discussion go on so that loyalists like u can come up and enlighten "terrified" souls like us...
neways, hope to see u at glakes...nothing personal man...chill out!!!

Re: Great Lakes Batch 2009 - 10-03-2008, 09:18 PM

hi All,

This is Ravi and i've got admit too ! I'm happy and would be joining.
about me..
BE with 4.5 yrs of Exp at IBM
Have been in the US for the past 1.5 yrs and will be coming back, to join the school. The reason why ive mentioned this is to reiterate my belief in Great Lakes. yes, the school is functioning from a temp building and may not have good num of faculty, but as someone mentioned earlier, the truth is we couldn't get into IIMs. I'm prety sure that in the coming years, great lakes will be no lesser than IIMs or ISBs..
The reason why "I" choose to join Great Lakes is..

1: US Economys heatlh is not all that Good. Working here is fine, but studying is not advisable under present circumstances. I dont want to mortgage my home in India and study abroad, for which the returns, or even a getting job in US is looking bleak. I prefer to add wealth, to my wealth

2:Indian Economy is growing, and I hope it wont follow US where ever it goes ! in short, things in India aren't that bad as in US. So getting a decent Job wont be a problem. Also, the schools in India have campus placement options, which is good.

3: I need a one yr MBA. the ROI from ISB is less in comparison to Glakes. Glakes is about 1/3 rd the cost of ISB. Also, i feel its too much of a crowd at ISB, with the strength of 400+. So Great lakes fits the bill correctly for me.

4: I'm in touch with Glakes alumni and they are doing great in their jobs. Once you step in corporate world, its entirely on you to prove yourself and the college that you are from shouldn't matter much.

These are my thoughts and reasons as to why i choose Glakes.
regarding the blogs or ppl complaining about great lakes, I care less. To all the apprehensive/doubtful minds, Just question what you want and look at the trade offs. Great lakes is coming up with a good campus, else they wouldn't put the photo on the front page of their brochure !. Once establised, you wouldnt regret being part of this upcoming school. I beleive students had the same dilema while joining ISB or IIMs in its formative years.
My gut feeling tells me to go for Great lakes, what does yours say ?

Re: Great Lakes Batch 2009 - 11-03-2008, 01:40 AM

hi Seniors,

I am IN for the 2009 batch.
Do GLIM policies allow a person who joins on Sabattical leave from the company to pursue the course.?
I have heard that some colleges do not allow students to sit in placements who have come on sabattical leave. Is this applicable for Great Lakes too???
Any Sabattical leave students in last year batch and appeared for placements? Would really appreciate if i get a reply so that i can make up my decision.
