Exactly...

IF one withdraws admission after course commencement and he is not refunded any fees, that can be understood, if not supported. But why NO REFUND for people who withdraw admission even before course starts?

Great lakes might loose good students by doing such things...

What's more... some fresh news... I just received a mail from them... In case one wants to avail of the loan from Indian Bank as mentioned by Great Lakes then all the documents along with the forms duly filled should reach Glakes by the 15th March. Now they are really stretching it... I don't believe a college as reputed as Great Lakes is doing this...

Hello ppl..........there is no system being followed which is not prevalent in other B schools. The argument abt AICTE and Non AICTE is hilarious to say the least. The reason there is a deadline beocz students need to make up their mind. U can not decide to not 2 join in mid april and ask for refund as then it would be tough for any candidate in wait list 2join . Institute suffers and hence thats y no institute will allow u to take ur sweet amount of time before joining.....

I would appreciate if junta here stop jumping to conclusions without understanding the entire ambit of issues!!

Cheers

Now, I Agree with theunkindmonk. Since GLIM has very little time (One month) before the classes start, i think its justified. Even other schools do not refund money once a treshold period of 2 months before class starts is reached.

I thnk what prospective students have to keep in mind is that u need to decide if you need GLIM or some other school. if u feel strongly that you will get in some other school, then give GLIM the miss if thats what u want. Finally its an informed decicion that you take.

In my case, ive already given $2500 (1 Lac) to SPJCM (1yr GMAB at Singapore and Dubai). but im foregoing that amount for a better school. Note that my choice of school was NOT based on fees. If, in my analysis, i had felt that SPJ was better, i wud have taken that. But overall, i feel GLIM is much better. and hence my decision.

Please see below Refund policy for SPJCM. Note that classes start by end of May, 2008. Total fees is close to $29000 (12 Lacs)

· Requests for refund will be entertained only till March 31, 2008. 50% of the amount paid will be refunded after deducting the initial non-refundable deposit of USD 2,500.
· Nil refund if withdrawn post closing of working hours March 31, 2008.
· Should a student wish to withdraw after full payment, withdrawal is allowed only on serious health grounds with proper documentation and certification at the discretion of the S P Jain management. An amount of USD 2500 will be held back and all balance monies will be refunded.
· Last date for payment of all fees / monies - April 15, 2008

Thanks and Regards

But what about the deadline for producing the loan documents... 15 th March... is that justified?? Even if I courier the documents tomorrow.... there is no guarantee that it will reach Glakes on the 15th... considering that they should have sent the mail a lot earlier rather than today afternoon... now they have us in a fix... and by the way... SPJain Dubai and Singapore is not approved by AICTE either... these institutes just take undue advantage of this... and also I don't see the hilarious side of AICTE and non-AICTE... can u please enlighten so that we all can have a hearty laugh too?

Fairly enough my friend,

But you are thinking only from institute side, but get into shoes of aspirants...

1) People have some other calls waiting...so take fees but just make sure that most of results are out and delay of 10 more days will give some breathing time to aspirants. OR refund by cutting some percentage.

2) People are going to pay 50K...so if they are leaving, they are already paying for this extra time and efforts great lakes has to put to get waitlist student IN.

All and said, great lakes might loose good students which would have joined, if they dont convert anything. But now some, who expect other calls, will hesitate to pay fees by march 31.

So real question is who is looser? Good schools become great by atracting more and more good students...

Great Lakes is actually not doing itself any favors by resorting to such things... Now most of the students who go through this ordeal would advise their friends and acquaintances to be wary of applying to Great Lakes if they have applied to other B-schools else they risk losing some hefty sums of money... I believe there would not be many out there who have just applied to Great-Lakes and would not be waiting for other results to be announced... Likewise there may be many out there who would want to take an education loan themselves and not from the institute... such a short response time makes it impossible to go for any other loan.. its more or less like... TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.. NO SECOND THOUGHTS...
