advice regarding admission - 04-03-2008, 03:01 PM

Hi all . I am doing my first year in MBA From a bgrade bschool . I plan to write the CAT and XAT 2008 .I am very confident of cracking it . I could not write the exam last year due to some personal reasons . Hence i had no other alternative but join a b grade bschool . If i crack the CAT can i apply or the fact that i am already in a bschool be a constraint .
Please advice .

Thanks in advance

I am sorry for opening a new post as i coul not find any other category where this query could be posted .

He will have to explain and justify what he was doin in this last year.. So better to be honest and give them a well thought-out reason for joining this b-school in the first place. It's all about convincing the interview panel..
I would say give the entrance tests if you're confident.. MBA from a good college can do wonders..

He can say he was preparing for entrances but if he started justifying his MBA than that would directly raise questions like...

> If u dont want to be a part of bgrade bschool than Y did u joined it.
This shows decision power was not their.
> Now you want to change it into good bschool.
This shows one cant manage the situation and turn out to be best in what he got, instead we facing backward and changing the path.

But if he completes his MBA and work in industry even for 1+year and than he can move ahead with 2nd time MBA, in that case one would be able to reply properly and that justification would be more valid and valuable. One guy in my Class is an MBA and now doing double MBA And even he was from bgrade or say cgrade institute.

Thanks a lot buddies . The info was very useful . I plan on saying that i was preparing for entrance . But i heard that interviewers would prefer a candiatate who prepared for the exam by being in a job or in final year of college . this would show that he can multi task and manage time . so that is a question i have to be prepared to answer . Any ideas .?
Thanks a lot for you effort i really appreciate it

You'll need to be prepared to explain why you didn't take it up the year before. You can't just say 'personal reasons' in an interview.. Also, be ready to justify how this year wasn't a waste of your time. [not too tough to answer that, but preparation's just as critical for this]

Thanks dude.
the issue is i had arrears in my final year of college . so could not concentrate on cat etc . Then afer i joined the work i decided i wanted to do the cat . but did not have the time to prepare as i was working on a site . The pay alos was very less . So i wanted to do my MBA very badly . one coz i liked the profiles that it would all ow me to work in,secondly the rise in pay . so i joined anna univesity . now that i had time in my college to prepare . i was able to to do a very good preparation . so i thought i should give the cat xat a shot . but as told earlier i had doubt if my current situation woul in itself be a constraint.

Thanks in advance
Sahasram
