Volunteers join in to compile Ebook of 'All I wanted to speak about CAT' -
01-03-2008, 10:21 PM
Hey puys,
Last month, we discussed (Book version of 'All I wanted to speak about CAT' posts) compiling the sacred All I Wanted To Speak About CAT (All I wanted to Speak about CAT) thread into a Community Ebook.
After working with accenture07, we have a test version ready. See attachment with this post to download and check it out .
The design, layout etc needs to be worked upon better, but this its the basic idea. Suggestions for improvements?
Would anyone be interested in helping me out to...
1. Fish out the best posts in the All I wanted to Speak thread
2. Edit them for proper English, etc
3. Contact the posters over PM and try to find out where they are currently, which company/b-school etc.
4. Send them to me. We'll make it into a nice Community Ebook
Please post with suggestions and volunteer hands!
Cheers,
|

It's a community effort, no 'work' as such . Let's say...
Stage 1 - Each one of us takes 3 posts, edits and gets information about the current whereabouts of the poster. Deadline - March 10
Stage 2 - First version of design is made and shared among us for proofreading, design improvements, last minute changes etc. Deadline - March 20.
Stage 3 - We make the changes based on suggestions in Stage 2 and release the book by March 25
Is there a better way to do this?

Count me in.
What I suggest is this:
1. We crowdsource the posts we want to put into the book.
PS: How many posts do we want? Id Est, how many experiences will we be putting in in Volume 1?
2. We get present details of the authors. I suggest the following details:
a. Real Name
b. Bschool mein entry li? Kahan li? Kab pass out hue?
c. Occupation, and company working for at present
d. What do you have to say, as of now, to the next generation of BSchool aspirants?
3. As Apurv said, edit the posts. Prima Facie, we will also need the approval of the original authors for this, even if we're editing.
4. Collate them together at one location. We can email it to the PGHQ also.
And this is where I enter. I can format the text, design the book, and bring it all together. One reason I am saying to bring all raw stuff together is to maintain one design in atleast the formatting and stuff. I went through the formatting of the draft version - even for a draft version, it lacks a lot. Give me another 30 minutes and I'll put up a better version of the same.
Are we also looking at making a print run of the ebook? Or are we keeping it as only an ebook? With the amount of content that is now available on the forum, it is high time the HQ thought about getting some print stuff out.
Regards,
Grondmaster

Ok so it took me an hour instead of 30 minutes. Anyways, here goes.
1. We should also get the authors to give us, if possible, a recent photo of theirs. An Orkut profile phot should also do, but in case if we decide to publish then perhaps we'll need a wee bit higher resolution.
2. The latest statement we ask from them need not be large, perhaps 50-100 words.
3. I'd rather keep the book's name 'All I Want to Speak About CAT - the EBook version' coz that's what the more famous name is, lets not change it.
Keeping these things in mind, I present the newer version of the ebook. Check out the attachment!

Grondmaster

I think the updated version looks cool. I'd be more than happy to help with the editing bit coz that's part of my job profile too. (Wow! You got a pro editor.. hehe)
Jokes apart, I can also write to all the folks required, and seek their inputs.
So, please lemme know if my help is desired.

Count me in too great initiative
But i have a Q,
one of the best written posts is of 'thedragonreborn', but he aint posted in this forum in nine months, how do we go about getting the locations and details of such puys
One more thing. I think the intro should come before the index
This adds to the aura, I also think the intro should be reworded, not that it is bad now
We should introduce CAT itself as what it means to the aspirants. It is the centre of their lives for many. If we take different views and collate them it would be done.
Just a suggestion though
