The Hindu Business Line : IIM-A may ‘defer’ fee hike, related decisions

it says.."Admissions were to begin on April 11 but are yet to start in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling in favour of 27 per cent reservation granted recently to the OBCs, except the “creamy layers”. Now, with the possibility of the fee-hike being ‘deferred’ also emerging, it is still not clear when the admissions would begin"....holy cow:2gunfi re:

IIM-A hike fee was unnecessary: Report

“A hike in fees is not the only solution. The challenge is to ensure that society is more inclusive. I think society has a much greater expectation from the IIMs,” Professor at IIM-A, Anil Gupta said.
Insiders say that the more-than-double fee hike almost suggests an arrogance rising out of the fact that IIM-A is arguably Asia's best B-School and so it can decide what fees to charge.

An independent report, prepared and submitted to IIM-A in November 2007, said that the cost margin per student per year is Rs 2.12 lakh. But the IIM-A, which has increased the fees far more than that deficit, justifies the move.

The Hindu News Update Service

Ahmedabad (PTI): The IIM review committee arrived at the Indian Institute of Management here on Friday to discuss various issues, including the fee structure.
The five-member review committee that arrived here this morning held a meeting with IIM-A director Sameer Barua and other senior faculty members of the institute.
"Our terms of reference include 11 aspects. We are here to review all these aspects including fee structure," Committee's Chairman, R C Bhargava, said.
"We have visited Bangalore IIM and are going to visit other IIMs also before submitting our report to the Ministry," he said.
When asked whether the committee's recommendation to hold back the fee hike was being implemented, Bhargava said, it was for the IIMs to implement it.
The review committee, in its interim report submitted on April 4, had asked the Central Government to ask all the IIMs to defer any increase in fee, till it submits the final report. The committee is also likely to meet some members of the IIM-A Board of Governors later in the day.

Re: IIM's n other B-schools hike fees - 29-07-2008, 06:56 PM

This sure is an important issue. Presently, I'm working at PG as a content writer and we're thinking of running a story on how students have been affected by this fee hike at IIMs and other Indian B-schools.

Looking at issues such as how the applicant pool will be affected because of this steep hike, how and if education loans will now require less collateral or security, whether other b-schools are going in for a 'Robin Hood' style of issuing scholarships a la IIM Ahmedabad. In essence, how students are affected as regards this fee hike and how people are coping with it.

So if there are people who've taken loans and been directly affected by this fee hike please let me know your views. PM me your number if you feel that there's lots of light you can shed on this issue and I'll get back to you.

Cheers,
Harsh
