Ready to pay more .....:bomb::razz:uppydog: IIMs are tuning on the line of private business schools and capitalising thier brand name to squeeze more money from the aspiring candidates..
IIM B has increased its yearly fees from 250000 to 400000 on the name better facilities(see the article below) i.e. 60% increase :razz:uppydog:..are the board of governors of IIM have gone mad or what. Neither India GDP(8.6%) grow on such a fast rate nor per-capita income goes up on such a rate (Its expected at 11% increase). I agree the expenditure of education is rising high but the Institues like IIMs should generate more resources rather than passing on full burden to the students. IIM's please learn something from IITs where there alumni contribute so much so that they are able to maintain low fees (for example IIM B -SJMSOM Saliesh Mehta has funded a full MBA institue ,similarly Alumni of IIT kanpur who run very big telecom business in US has donated 10 crore to the department of management at IIT Kanpur) . IIMs are now becoming greedy by increasing fees every year as they know students have no other option but to join this premier institues (IIM A,B,C)
Three IIMs hike fee
New Delhi: Three Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have increased their fees by at least 50 percent. The new price will be implemented from the coming academic session, Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Arjun Singh informed parliament Tuesday.
"The boards of governors of only three IIMs - Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta - have so far decided to raise the fees for the postgraduate programme from the next academic year," Singh informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
With this decision, fees for the first year for students joining IIM-Ahmedabad and IIM-Calcutta will be Rs.300,000 from the upcoming academic year, against Rs.200,000 now.
IIM-Bangalore has increased the fee from Rs.250,000 for a year to 400,000 for the same period.
India has six IIMs. The other three are in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Kozhikode (Kerala).
The minister said the central government has not opposed this fee hike.
"Everything is becoming costly. The logistics and other requirements to fulfill the educational need are also becoming expensive. It's a unanimous decision," a senior IIM-Ahmedabad professor told IANS.
