me was also scrwed...but i was happy...as i as able to drive the interview....in my favour....am a CA in the hedge fund industry.....was able to drive into my direction...sub prime crisis....and allll...was able to answer all that...as i wanted them to ask me about sub prime crisi...probably my hedge fund interview drove them to ask u abt the hedge funds,...

here goes my GD Pi experience...
Will start with my profile:
CAT OA 98.39 percentile...CA with 2 years work ex in the hedge fund industry as a fund accountant....also..B.Com. Honors-Accounting
had mY GD Pi on sunday 9:00 am...was bein seen anxiously by all the people on the stations while I was on my way to the centre in mumbai...sunday ko bhi ...itni subah....tie...and formal dress with bag...kina kaam karte ho bhai....seemed everbody was asking the same q with thier expression on their face.....
anyways,...reache by 8:20...40 mns before time...and all the participants were there by 8:30...30 mins b4 time....and the process actually started befor time...seemed everbody was anxious to get the adsmission....
so the process started with filling up of the form...a lot of info had to be filled in...but the seniors of IMI were very helping and the process went on smoothly....
then came the essay topic.....the procedure a sregards the choice is already explained in previous posts..so wud ont go into details on that..our frst topic for the essay came out to be "competition among the brands has benefitted the consumers"...everybody accepted the topic instantly....so...wrote the essay in 1 and half page....wrote both in favour as well as against the topic....pretty satisfied with my essay....
then came in the 3 panel members and it was the time for Gd....same way..the frst topic was selected at that instnt..."FDI in India is bein used as political tool rater than an economic toll"...was surprised that everbody accepted the topic instantly....me got the chance to start...as no 1 came forward....then made 2-3 more netries...overall..the Gd was cool...no fish market.....1 guy din spoke at all and he was asked to summarise in 1 min......
then we wrer taken outside the room for PI....
Me was 5th in the group...3 panel members 1 man ..pretty senior ..head panel (HP)
IIT Delhi man (ID) and an alumni(A)...currently in the banking industry....me(M)

Me:Ankit Maheshwari...(they were searching on the sheet...as the person bvefore me on the sheet had already appeared day before...) ...%th on the sheet sir....

ID: market yourself...y we shud take you
Me:gave my personal details...din actually marketed myself too aggressively...thought that my CA degree was enough for my marketing....seemd to be ok with my reply
HP:so man..u are a chartered accountan...the degree which is ver very difficult ot get....then y do you anna go in for it....
ME:blah...blah....they seemed to be pretty satisfied:infact, the HP explained to the pther panel members that CA+ MBA is gonna make woders for my career and is a very unique combination
HP:how many calls
ME:gave details about the 5 calls i have
HP:u have many options ta your hand
HP:y is the stocjk market sinlking
ME:gave the fundas about the Us possible recession...coz of the sub-prime crisis(i used the sub primecrisis term intentionally as i wanted the interview to be take int hat direction)
ID:am a layman...explain me subprime crisis...HP interrupts in between and sayd that the student is from the hedge fund industry,,...he mi9ght be knowng that very ell...Id replied...i want to use him as my knowledge centre and enhance my knowledg...all 3 start laughing...me tooo joind them with a smile....explained them the whole concept....they were prety happy.....
Then some q on my work ex and y did i left KPMG..gave them fundas...were satisfied.....
HP:dop u have some knowledge other than the world of finance...wats happening in the world...
Me:started off with HDFC-CBOP...then said about the filmfare awards.....all started laughing looking at each other...as if i have cracked some non veg joke.....me too smiled...then said about the US election...pakistan elections....and something more...dun eremeber...
HP:wats so special about the Us elections:
me gave all the fundas...ecoomic supoerpower...(but missed...i knew but missed to say...about barack obama nd frst lady candidate..).
HP...gave details about the above what i hd missed....(.this was probably only 1 question which i din answer......)
U are truly a CA......u also need to moe outof the world of finance ...and started laughing.....me too smiled.....
HP:so weher do u find urself 5 years from now
me:gave fund....to be successfull an excel in my fiel
HP:specifically which field
ME:IB or corporate finance
A:what role in IB
Me: fund manager...

Overall,..the interview was very cool....dun remember..if there was anything more in the interview....will give details if I remember

Everybody seems to have had a very positive GD-PI experience at IMI...that makes it all the more difficult to judge our own performance..
So what ultimately is going to count towards our selections??

Even if your GD/PI performance is same, we have ur profiles, which can distinguish you from one another. So don't worry about that

hey nikhil_aero,
i had my imi interview on the 25th of feb in kolkata.
i had applied through company sponsorship,and as my sponsor was my family business itself i did not submit the work experience letter.
i would be grateful to u if u cud pls find out whether it is necessary for ppl with family business to submit work exp letter...if it is ,i wud send my letter asap..

Anyways wat hapened was, While filling the IMI Aplication form in November, In haste i just mentioned 1 company i worked with and forgot to mention the other.

But during the GD-PI round i had in Hyderabad, I spoke to the panel, and they asked me to write both the companies in the form we were given to fill during Gd-PI....

But i just wanted to make sure about the whole thing. Could you confirm from the Admissions office. I just hope my candidature is not made invalid for this issue.

It's ok. the final data will be taken from your data form which you filled at the time of interview.
