Hey ppl,

Snippets from the interview at SIBM.. I guess that is what is most importan as of now

Me and 3 panelists. One old guy (L), One bald guy(B) and one other guy(O)

The interview lasted for about 7 minutes

I enter — Panelists looking all stern

Me: Good morning Sirs

Panelists : Good morning, Please take your seat

L: hmmmm.. Chennai eh... Srikanth... 63% in B.com:lookroun:

L: So beta, Tell me... Why do u want to do MBA

ME: Rehersed answer

B: Why do u want to be an ent

Me: Cuz its my dream

B: Y?

Me: Cuz I find ent very inspiring, Do so much for the country etc etc

B: Temme 1 ent who has done something for the country

ME: NArayan Murthy

B: Kid, Ive been in the business for 3 years.. All i look at is profit..

Me: Sir to an extent money is the driving factor.. but at a point any ent would reach a stage where his hunger for money would be saturated.. then it comes down to bigger things in life

B: OK so u say u want to do something for the country.. Go fight on the border.. MBA is not the place for u..

Me: Sir, To serve your country is not to fight on the border. Every individual serves his country in his own way and capacity. I believe I can serve my country best through business and I believe this is the place for me

B dint ask me much after this

O: Do u invest in stocks?

Me: NO

O: Do you read abt them?

ME: Yes

O:What did u read?

ME: That stock markets crashed and people lost money

O: Oh so is it true that only fools lose money and they were idiots to put their money on a losing horse?

Me: Sir, Every Investor is a rational human being. He invests with th motive of earning a profit for which he takes a certain risk. If it works out he earns... if it doesnt... he loses.. it s a matter of luck...

O: Does that mean there is a relation b/w risk and reweard?

ME: Gave exlanation

O: So u want to be an ent? Wat will u do? Consultancy? stock brokerage?

ME: I am too young to comment on that as yet sir. But I would love to open a restaraunt as I am a major foodie..

O and B: Oh in that case go join a catering course... that will make more sense for you..

Me: I am too young to decide on a venture as of now.. a rest is just a germ in my head among many others.. If I do a catering course, Ill be a caterer all my life. With an MBA i will keep my options open.. Plus it would make me a better employer.

B to rest: Anything else u wanna ask?

Panel: NO.. U may leave..

Me: Thank you...

My promise - I will fulfill

Re: Chennai Call-Getters GD/PI Preps [2008-10] - 26-02-2008, 12:29 PM

A small update from my side. My IMT interview experience. Sorry for the HUGE post..

Mine was at Bangalore Institute of Technology on 24th Feb at 8:30 AM. I had to get up at 6:30 to get there, got there by 7. ( damn banglr traffic, either you are too early or too late) I was the first one there (of course). The wait was extended thanks to the very slow process of verification.

The GD (I prefer to call it CHAOS):

Well after about 2 and half hours of wait, we were finally called for GD. The topic given was : ' Is it possible to contribute to social service, being a part of the corporate world.' They do give us two topics and we had to pick a topic as a group, almost all of us went for this topic. ( don't remember the other one) There were 15 people in my panel and just 8 minutes to talk. Of course, it was a fish market ( never experienced one before). There were atleast 6 people talking at once. The only female in the batch tried desperately to create some kind of order but then nobody listened. I felt I made a good account of myself, slipping in 3 or 4 valid points without being cutoff. The points revolved around Corporate social Responsibility (CSR), lack of time, simple solutions such as saving paper and a lot more. The GD ended with each person having one minute to talk on the same. I felt all of us would have been equally satisfied with our answers.( the only time we got proper airtime ) The whole thing ended with a written summary of the GD in about one minute.

PI:

The panel was the same as the GD. Knocked on the door, asked them may I come in and went in with a smile only to hear a polite NO, will call you in a couple of minutes. Anyways finally went in. There were two guys: one in normal formal attire (will call him P1) and another in business formals including a blazer and a tie(will call him P2).

Moi: good morning sir, good morning sir.
P1: So, you are Akhilesh?
Moi: yes sir.
P2: you are a mechanical graduate and working in an IT company?
Moi: yes sir.
P2: Don't you think a mechanical company would be better served by your qualification.
Moi: Answered as prepared.
P1: What is this ERP that you are working on?
Moi: Explained the same well.( The only thing I had a very good idea about)
P2: Ok, you are in ERP, how did you mechanical background help?
Moi: Explained.
P1: Ok, tell me why are you here?
Moi: Told him about my career goals. Told him how I would like to get back to Wipro as a functional consultant in the short term and how I wish to start a company with 4 of my friends in a decade or so.
P2: Ok, tell me how will IMT help in that respect?
Moi: Told him.
P1: Hmmm...do you think you will learn everything you need in 2 years at IMT?
Moi: Not everything,but...blah blah blah.
P2: Ok, tell me about Mayavathi.
Moi: told.
P1:tell me her full name ( I was stupid enough not to know she wasn't married )
Moi: I don't know.
P1: What is her husband's name:
Moi: Don't know.
P2: Is she married?
Moi: (now had an idea, she wasn't because of all this pestering, but didn't want to change now and look stupid) I am not in a position to comment.
P1: So can I say you are good with everything but current affairs?
Moi: That neednot be true. Knowledge is such that what we know is always a drop in the ocean.(Like he asked me for Phillosophy) I wouldn't say that it is my USP but I ain't very weak either.
P2 (quickly): What is wrong with Jodha Akbar.
Moi: Told him.
P1: Hmm...ok great meeting you Akhilesh.
Moi: Great meeting you too sir.
I was out in about 10-15 minutes. Went straight to a hotel, hadn't had breakfast and boy I was hungry.
