Puys.....Are the IIMs going to increase the no. of seats this time???? Last time what happened to the Additional seats allocated for OBCs???? Did they allocate them to General Category students??? What have IIMs done with the 200 crores of funds given by Government of India for increasing seats and providing OBC quota??? If they are going to give quota this time, are the no. of seats for General Category going to be reduced???? Please post your thoughts about this as this decision by IIMs would play a major Role for getting calls to us... the decision taken might increase or decrease the quota for General Category students.....this thread does not undermine OBC students....please discuss only the possibilities....

am i wrong? | To the best of my knowledge, the verdict of the case is pending from the Apex Court's side. And I think such cases go on for a very long time. So there is little chance of OBC quota to kick in this time around. The HRD ministry too is silent on the issue. Hope so it doesnt wake up around April.
I think the IIMs should raise the number of seats for general category now for if the OBC quota kicks in from 2009 session, there would not be any increase in the general category seats for a few years to follow... Season 2007-2008:

I think the IIMs should raise the number of seats for general category now for if the OBC quota kicks in from 2009 session, there would not be any increase in the general category seats for a few years to follow... | The IIMs have actually collected data about OBC candidates in the application form itself. And also they are currently using the funds provided for OBCs, so I am sure there will be at least 10% of seats allocated for OBCS this time...... . The OBC politicians will be under pressure if OBC quota is not implemented this time as this would affect their Vote bank. Hope the IIMs increase the seats for General Category.....what say????

| If it is to be implemented, 21-22.5% is the figure under observation.. meaning, the General category shall compete for only just above 50% of the seats

But this will be achieved in phases. This year around 10% will be provided, next year around 20% and next to next 27%. Anyways lets hope the overall seats are also increased to this extent.

Anyways lets hope the overall seats are also increased to this extent. | The actual percentage of seats for OBCs may be 27%. The figure 27 % was strongly argued against by the petitioners. And if I aint mistaken, the phased manner of implementation of the OBC reservation was a plan chalked out last year. The 27 % OBC quota is yet to be a reality. The Apex Court's decision is pending in this matter. If the Apex Court pronounces the verdict in favor of the petitioners challenging the Reservation Act, OBC quota is out of question for the academic year 2008-2009. The Centre in all likelihood would bring in an amendment to the Constitution to realise its dream of 27 % quota for the SEBCs. But that can happen only next year. On the contrary, if the Apex Court rules in favour of the Centre, chances are that the quota may kick in this year itself. But it depends at what juncture does the Apex Court pronounces its verdict....
Btw, IIMB and IIMI have already raised their intake from the academic session 2008-2009. Hope so that the other IIMs too follow the suit. But its unlikely atleast for this year. had that been the case, the news would have come in long time back. Season 2007-2008:

So IIMs would give some calls to OBC students and if the apex court verdict does not favour implementing OBC quota then general students will be provided those seats and those OBC students getting calls will be considered under general category....

So the situation that occured last year shant happen this time Season 2007-2008:
