Me too, soon gonna join, "cat'08 for working professionals" league.
And that makes me kind of worried about preps and all. I am wondering, how my preparation will go along with the work being unsure about the working stress and work culture etc. So, just keeping my arms fit to handle the things and wanna meet up some Delhi junta who are making there final attempts this year...! I haven't thought of any prep materials and test series etc, so need your suggestions.
P.S. Working juntas, please pour in your views on my concern. I would love to read them all. I really need the support and encouragements as I already had a debacle faced in '07.. as i was totally insincere about the game plan and didn't give my prep a single hour.

:-)
as an advice I'd tell u to start at a slow pace but right now...
as far as material is concerned, its a totally personal choice whether you want to follow individual books or some coaching institutes's material...(suno sab ki karo man ki )
lets come to the more important part - motivation...

Re: CAT 2008 for Working Professionals -
08-04-2008, 04:27 PM
For working professionals, according to me, there are two challenges. one, managing time. two, Which material and which coaching institute.
First, I suggest all the working professionals to fix at least two hours of study for cat every day and four hours on Sunday (two hours for revision). Fix targets topic wise for a week and accomplish them. This will require dedication and off course as already quoted many times in the thread is motivation. First things first do make a plan till CAT and write it and keep it visible. Past it on wall, keep it on table; what ever you do keep it visible.
Second which material, First focus on completing the material which you have not completed while you prepared last time. This may include study material or MOCK tests or Take away tests. Focus more on solving Mock papers which will start for every Coaching institute from May or June or July. But even before the Mocks start you will have with you last years mock and take away papers plan for them and start solving them. Please solve them in one go don’t break them up. But more important than solving these mocks is Analysing the mocks. Every mock or Take home tests will take two days of working. steps involved as suggested are:
1) Plan your mocks: Plan a strategy for the mock. This will include time division, Which section to go for first, How to do the different sections etc.
2) Give the mock in stipulated time and in one stretch.
3) Quick Analysis: Analyse your strategy vs what you have done. Remember strategies are made to change. So what ever changes you have done or have happened while doing the mock note them and also not that if they have helped you or have been a trouble. For example you could have decided to do Quant first and then DI and then English. But because of the realities in paper may be because quant was tough you decided to go for DI and then English and then math. Note this and see if it has helped you or not.
4) Detail Analysis: Analyse Each question wise. Question no 1- done or not. If not why. It was difficult. I didnt see it. It was too lenghty. I didnt knew where this question has come from. I was not clear about the question etc. If done , was correct or wrong If wrong what went wrong. Methodology. Calculation error. Didn’t understand the question properly etc. Do this for each and every question. Not the Step 3 and four has to be done on the same day on which you have given the mock test.
5) Solve the entire MOCk paper.
Please remember the analysis has to be written down in a note book so that before you write next mock you can go thru your last analysis and can plan for next mock. Also it will find my areas of weakness which I need to improve. You also get weeks target for improvement.
Motivation is a simple to come by. I want be my bosses’ boss in another two years time. That should help me getting my motivation going or it can be i want own my dream car in another three years time. What ever motivates your for CAT. Write it in bold and big letters and paste it on the wall. Don’t be shy. People may laugh if I am not able to achieve what i have set my target at but then you will any way be hurt because you have not achieved what you have set your eyes on. The pain is any way going to be there. You’re going to be hurt any way. But setting target keeping eye on it will make my chance better. SO just do it.
All the best!

Hi,
All those from Pune willing to form a study circle to crack the mba entrance exams for the season of 2008 please PM me.
I definitely feel that group study improves performance thru knowledge sharing and competiveness.
