Hi Aksr ,
first of all cracking Cat all depends on ur self practise, only reason ppl join claases is just for ref or rather say for a scheduled preparation . without classes u wont feel the heat of competion around you . also the materail which is given by class is juice of all the various books available for CAt preparation . so ref 20 books and wasting time it is always recommended to go for one best source which is having conetnets of all the books .

May be you are right but I don't believe much in this argument of practise[practice] for it may vary from person to person and based on his initial aptitude levels. Anyway your advice about coaching material is good one.
Let me go on one step further to ask you this that how much the study material of these coaching institutes change every year and how much a current study material is required for CAT considering unlike IITs etc they don't change their syllabus often, neither its like a pattern being followed.:sarcasm:
Yours Competitor Friend,
Aksr...

In a great dilemma,Plz throw some light into it.:argue:
ya i have sorted out my options:
1. Joining a coaching class.
2. it has to be either IMS or TIME.
but the problem is :
1. is it late to join classes now or still we hav enuf time to compensate?
2. which one is better in terms of classes (not the test series)?
I mean which one has got some kind of personal attention kinda stuff?
BTW i hav TIME material with me frm last yr corres course.
3. In Bhubaneswar-> ne body have ne idea hws the faculty thr for the IMS & TIME.

Hi Iota
I don't think its tool late to join a coaching class, with almost 7.5 months left for CAT 08.And importantly the mock Cats will start only around July,so you dont have anything to lose if u join a coaching now.
I would suggest u join TIME since their faculty tend to be good, though I don't have any idea about Bhubaneshwar centre.
Also AIMCATs though on the tougher side definitely help you gear up for surprises on offer in CAT.Also number of people giving AIMCATs is on higher side comapred to SIMCATs,so you have more competition.

Hey Aniruddha Thnks dude for all those valuable suggestions.
with deference to u feedback, one thing that i will re-iterate is that to me Test series is not a matter of concern, as i am going to join the test series of TIME and IMS both wen the test series starts
only concern is the faculty and attention in personal level.
in addition to that the TIME package is very attractive: thy give more #s of AIMCAT and also the package involves GDPI prep also.
but all boils down to one point --> the coachin itself.
I know this is a hard call but need suggestions

I don't think that any coaching will or can guarantee you all excellent faculty,i had taken up the TIME classroom coaching in Chennai for CAT 2007,but I would say not every one of the people taking classes could be termed excellent, though there were around 3 or 4 excellent teachers, but you couldn't have them taking all classes for a particular batch....well about the rest few were part timers with other jobs and few others were CAT aspirants, who were giving it their second/third shot
I had a friend in my batch who was really shocked to see his junior from engg college walk in to take a class one day....
So joining some classroom coaching is bit of a gamble but it may still pay off,if you are in a weekend batch you get to interact with people who are on the same boat ie working people.......
The decision can solely lie in ur own hands

Hi
About the coaching institute, I will just like to add that no institute is good or bad all throughout. It covers IMS, Time, CL and rest all as well. It depends on particular center. Sometime you may found some good local institutes or teachers as well. U can take help from them. As far as test series is concerned, I will just add it is relative marking so tougher or easier test will not make much difference. Just try to give some tests of institute's test series which you have not joined.
Hope it HELPS.

hi Fakkad,
i dont know from where u got to hear this...
it isn't the case at all yaaar...even the companies visiting the IIMs for placements give a lot of credit to the relevant work experience...
u might have seen the recent placement stats for IIMs...its clear from the very data...
a 3 year work-ex will be a major plus for your profile...:-)
