You could start by joining a weekend batch of any of the reputed coaching centres(you'll have to find out which is better for your city) and practice as much as possible, depending on the time you get from work.

If you don't wish to join a coaching, you can get hold of their study material from somewhere and start preparing yourself, but it's always difficult to get the motivation to study yourself while working(I know it as well, have 15 months of work-ex).

You can also study from Arun Sharma for QA and DI. He explains in a very simple manner and focusses more on concepts, so it should suit you.

I've also posted how/what to dos etc for CAT '08 aspirants, citing my own example in most cases, which I think you would find useful and avoid a few mistakes that I committed.

Ya speed is one thing that's good to have, even if CAT is nowadays moving more towards logic and reasoning. I think currently, you should focus more on the concepts. Speed will only come with time, when you're almost sure of the concepts, you know how to solve and think for various types of questions. Until and unless you know all this, how can solve quickly?? So, it's better you set a timeframe for yourself, depending on your level of learning and the time you are able to devote. Only after that time should you time your efforts, before that there'll just be too much pressure on you.

Regarding topics that have not appeared much in CAT, never think they can't appear again. In CAT 2006, FIJs(in Eng) appeared after a gap of 11-12 yrs, when everyone thought they won't be repeated again. So it's better to study as much as possible, but more than that, whatever you study, study absolutely thoroughly. Nothing should be half baked. It's like binary, either 0 or 1

All the best

Absolutely correct. CAT is all about concept rather than speed. First, we need to know the concept thoroughly and speed will automatically will come in course of time.

m also in complete agreement with u guys...

but yea @ d same tym...for other xamz..like...jmet..snap..fms etc...u need speed....and dat also playz a vital role...but yea...alwayz...concepts...has itz own stands above speed...infact i guess both r directly proportional...if ur concept is clear..automatically u will tend to get rid of problem soner...

keep rockin

Speed is important nobody disagrees but still there is much time left before cat or other exams so in the meantime it will be better to concentrate on the concepts and get a stronghold in basics
All correspondence courses send in a batch of supplementary materials around June with emphasis on speed workarounds time-saving and of course a heightened level of difficulty
Till then in my opinion its best to be crystal clear with the concepts and to make sure sitters are not gonna be missed anytime
Gradually we can work on increasing the coverage of our comfort zone and speed without compromising on accuracy coz after June due to mocks one hardly gets the time to get back to the fundamentals so why not make it a bastion when time is on our side
Best of luck guyz Rock on !!!

So what if IIMs are hell, we are devils too

Re: CAT 2008 for Working Professionals - 10-03-2008, 03:15 PM

hi guys

I have just started the preparation.
Joined TIME(aundh) ;-)

It was a session on Quant , topics covered were equations, ratio & proportions,
Faculty is good , he told us to look on the question with a different perspective, gave some good examples from last CAT exams.

a simple question was given by him , it was
How many possible values are there for a and b in equation a^2 - b^2 =417.

all the students made mistake as they started solving by making the equation like
(a+b)(a-b)=417. and said that there are 8 possible values.

BUT Faculty told us that , think for the question like a^2 = 417 + b^2.
then for every value of b ,you will get a value of a , so it has infinite solutions

BASIC is that questions do have some tricks in them so we have to develop a CAT attitude for that.
