hey gargi,
if u prepare for CAT sincerely, only that suffices...
these other exams are a little bit (not much) different from CAT...
but the difference is not that much which could demand a completely different line of preparation...
you can have a look at it here...
Other Exams - XAT, FMS, JMET, SNAP etc

Re: CAT 2008 for Working Professionals - 22-10-2008, 05:55 PM

Hi All,

Final few days left....was in a fix of what to do and what not to do...
Got one months leave.. now just 23 days left ( mostly wasted the first 7 days..:( - not feeling good ) .

Thought of just sharing with you all on how everyone else plans to go about it. Will talk about what I have decided..please put in ur plans/ideas/suggestions as well.Lets bell the CAT together and win..

Situation as of now
------------------
- Writing CAT the 3rd time.Have 2 yrs of IT exp.

- My CAT '07 scores :
QA - 95.6 %ile
DI - 89.5 %ile
VA - 92.85 %ile

OA - 96.96 %ile

So, for me.. DI and VA are the concern areas...( thou now, I feel I have lost touch in quant as well )

But I am more concerned about VA as I am not in a position to say that I would get a good score here, for sure, no matter what I try in these 23 days.... ( ideas anyone?? )

- Haven't attended any AIMCAT ( "work pressure + unpreparedness + laziness + scared of losing confidence " redefined)

Preparing for the final lap
------------------------

Well, I feel I will first focus on English..( have old AIMCATs and CRTs from TIME ).Practice around 28 AIMCATs ( this yr. + last yr AIMCAT and CRT ) + 13 more from last to last yr. for next say 7-8 days.

try out as much RCs and non-RCs as possible.

Next is Quant ( Can't delay it any more.Have to do basics as well. ) and then DI practice from the same pprs. as above.( will think more once done with english )

Well thts my plan as of now.Couldn't think of anything better. Will try my best to get rid of my laziness and study more hrs./day

How abt others ??

Hope to relate to few puys of the 2.5 Lakh for much needed motivation..
:nervous:

Regards,
Shyam

Re: CAT 2008 for Working Professionals - 22-10-2008, 06:45 PM

hi shyam,

I was preparing since may,I used give time on every weekend.Nw tht CAT is so near....I dnt want to give much time in my office. But we had a deadline for 14th Nov.which requires much effort. And I cant give up my so long preparations fr this office work. So , I too have planned for taking a long leave. Thinking of getting some fake medical certificate,as only two resources are thr in my project, i dnt thnk my PM will give me leave . So its better to take a long leave and call PM in middle of leave and say I have got jaundice or blah blah!! and produce a medical certi , if required after CAT.........

Wat do u all suggest ???

well.. at this moment, dont get baffled by your scores.. dont take too much pressure.. jst go back to the drawing board.. see wht are the possible reasons for the low scores.. was it in just one section tat impacted overall score.. did u waste time in any section ?.. did u try to attempt diffcult questions.. so anaylsing ur mocks is the only solution..

and one last thing.. these are just mocks for practice.. all u need to do is to keep ur nerve and dont feel the pressure.. CAT is a different ball game.. so go for CAT with an open mind and not any pre-conceived notions..

ATB for the mocks and CAT

cheers

Hy jayaram.. theres nothin to worry about..
Heres my experience with CAT 2007 -
Was working with a MNC- 10- 11 hours a day.. enrolled with IMS - 8mocks
Scored 96+ in first 4 mocks.. then 80+, 70+.. seventh mock - 47%ile.. , eight mock - 91...
DDAY - 96.5%ile sectionals Math - 83%, VA-90 AND DI - 97.5

96.5 is obviously not a gr8 score but was good enough for IIM-S call..
I'm just trying to say that if u can handle pressure in those 150mins.. u shd get thru (obviously ur basics have to be strong).. My suggestion - concentrate on ur strenghts.. don't try nethin new right now and try stayin calm during the exam

tough luck yaar..... if ur office doesn't know about u writing CAT....
then I would suggest ... go for it... ( worst case scenario.. you'll be out of the company..so what? I feel it is better than not clearing CAT )

In my case, the work has been like what you mentioned for almost three months now.So I told my office about my CAT and said I need leave...( keeping well in mind that I might have to quit if they dont agree ) ..

After a lot of discussions/meetings ( read fighting :P ) .. they accepted.

Nwaz.. All the very Best for prep and CAT..

Rgds,
Shyam
