hey , your problem is not unique , Most ppl who are working face similar problems .
it may sound cliché but I’ll repeat it . Try to make good use of time , see if you can devote some time in morning for study . also try spending more time on Sat .avoid distractions .
1 thing , do not put down your papers ,as it will reduce your options post CAT , and add to pressure during the exams .
See if you can take some leave in OCT

There is still 50 days for CAT and more than 3 months for XAT. So there is lot of time still there. Try to get 4-5 hours daily for study. Set clear time at which you will come to office and at which you will leave office.
Make sure that for these two months CAT is only thing in your life.

Dont go by the scores. Give MOCKs with a strategy and try to excel in at least one section. Score will definitely improve. I know ppl who were getting low scores in mocks but they beat IIMs. Thats because they worked very hard in last 2 months.

Re: CAT 2008 for Working Professionals - 25-09-2008, 05:02 PM

Hi Team,

I am working in a Telecom MNC & having 2 year work ex. . I am preparing for CAT & other entrance exams. I took leave from August to Nov 16 for the preapration of CAT & other exams. I am scoring 80 - 82 % in CL Mock.

Since past few days I am not able to concentrate on my studies. I am having an ambivalence scenario. Thoughts come in mind that I should now join the office & prepare while working. Whenever I sit for my study after sometime I feel that I should preapare for the exams with the job. Leaving job is not a solution.

What put me in worry is if going back to office will be OK or I will ruin my chances to secure a good percentile.

I feel that I should join the office & make a schedule. I have to be discipline till my exams. Also I am thinking to take leave from 1 Nov. or 5 Nov. to Nov. 16.

Please give me some valuable suggestion, if any. If I am thinking right or there is something wrong.

Hi, your query is not unique….browse through this thread and you will find a hundred others facing a problem similar to yours!
I’d say you should first sit down and figure out if staying back home for studying works for you…I m saying this coz for many people it doesn’t seem to work …an empty mind they say is a devil’s workshop!
So you need to analyze this for yourself…In case you decide to continue with your leaves...Well...Then the stage is set!..Just go ahead and make a schedule and capitalize on the benefits of a 2 month leave…50 days is a long time…if you can optimize!
Not many people have this liberty...So it really is a golden opportunity..
On the other hand, if u decide against taking leave...
Then, well, join back and welcome to the club! We are all trying to juggle jobs and studies here…and believe me , it’s not impossible…requires more commitment but is …Take leave once in a fortnight if possible and in the last week before CAT…try and get out of office on time…stick to your schedule etc etc
Personally, this works better for me...i can’t get myself to study if that is all I have to do the entire day...so I would any day take the latter option …also I don’t believe in letting CAT become larger than life…
That said, it doesn’t mean that this will work or wont …it varies for each person…What might work for me might not work for you…
Take the following factors into consideration before reaching a conclusion…
Your current level of preparation, your strengths and weaknesses (and the time you would need to build on these), whether you need more practice on fundamentals or you can jump into doing section tests/full length tests, what time of the day you study best etc etc…
Spend a good 1-2 hours thinking about all of this and you’ll know your answer..

@deepakpandey ,

Hi first congrats for getting this much leave... Even though u have taken leave for studying its not bad to relax or enjoy a little in hols. But since you have taken leave for the purpose of cat preparation the guilt feel will be higher. Dont fret about it. Every night make a note in a diary of what all studies you did for the day. After a week take a look at it. If you feel you could have learnt more if u were not in vacation(90% this will not be the case) then return to office. If that is not the case continue your hols.

PS: How were u able to get such a long leave?
