Thanks,
Aaditya
last year, even I started around this time. The difference was that i was in college.

What i did was to study through the mocks. The IMS mocks were my only preparations. I used to analyze the mocks, attend discussion sessions, revised concepts from the questions etc. Also, I did Arun Sharma VA and QA.

Arun_jee and all experienced people please help me out,I am really in great confusion.

Hi

I'm not experienced. But I think I will be able to answer that question. I year experience will help only in getting a feel of the industry. You won't be eligible for laterals. An experience MAY help you getting a good college provided you leverage that well in the interviews.

Apart from that, take the CAT. many a times, freshers end up getting more salary than work ex people

Getting an experience helps in understanding the way the Industry works, the various levels inside a company and how the interaction takes place.
One tends to learn how to work professionally and in a team, communicate with peers n stuff.
I don't think just 1 year of expereince would suffice to know all abt this.
A fresher and 1 year exp person are considered at the same (read -almost same) level.

Experience by itself doesn't count for the selection procedure in the Top B-schools of the country. There are numerous other factors like one's educational backgound (X, XII and graduation makrs), CAT score(tat's the most important), GD/PI, etc.
Companies do sometime consider an exp person over a fresher but tat doesn't mean tat a fresher will get lower package then an exp one.
So, its ur own decision as to what do u really want to do. Just like a coin has 2 sides - this(whether to get exp or directly go for a MBA degree after B.Tech) are 2 differnet scenarios.

Re: CAT 2008 for Working Professionals - 09-08-2008, 01:25 PM

Hello Puys,

I am in IT sector with 2.5 yr of work ex. I am a CLite and getting decent %tile(90-95) in mocks. Now my problem is how to get this 90-95 to 99+. For all the mocks I always tried some different strategy till now. Also most of the times I am able to clear cut-off in 2 out of 3 sections but it has NEVER happened that I may clear cut-off in all three sections.

Now I have following questions:
1. How to got from 90-95 range to 99+?
2. What should be my approach for next 3 months and for rest of the mocks?

Thanks in advance
-Sankalp

I had joined CL test series as well and I know that the difficulty level is above average. So if you can maintain 90-95 %ile, I think it's pretty good. Obviously it'll be better if you can extend this but even if you can't, despite all your efforts, don't be disappointed.

One thing that you're doing right is trying out different strategies. Keep doing so but in the last month or so, focus on a couple of strategies that have been the best for you, irrespective of the difficulty of the paper. The first should be your main strategy and the other your backup one. This should suffice

@avinav -- Thanks for replying

But my question still remains the same "What should be the best strategy from now onwards to prepare for CAT?"

I will appreciate if fellow PUYS can answer this question as many folks have this question in their mind.

Thanks,
Sankalp
