Hi abhay,
I did visit IMS Hungerford Street center and enquired about IMS. The girl told me all about IMS and the mode of studies they follow there and blah blah blah.....The important thing is that IMS offers is a wholesome approach for CAT , XAT and other exams (except GMAT). I shall be opting for the weekend course if I do join IMS.The course fees is a bit steep . Around 24K and all a one time payment.

PS: I expect folks to come up with their views on other institutes in this post if one is enrolld in one . Cmon , we need to find the best for ourselves

any center would try leftright n center to attract students.....so the girl was correct in her place......n the fees structure is a 1 time paymeny at almost every insti...
so as i said....take an intelligent decision !!!

Completely agree with abhay on this one....dude......these institutes advertise their credibility even on the net and tv...after all, we're just the "market" to them..dont expect a solution which you'd get from some form of philanthropy..
nothing happens without a reason....so choose fundamentally....choose from your perspective...i'll advise you to approach a coaching centre and ask them if you could just sit for a class for that day...without taking the course then and there only....persuade them that you're not just another freeloader and you wanna take an informed decision..evaluate it..

fyi...TIME has the facility of providing fee payment on installments...get the specific info from your centre...
Hope this helps..

cheers mate...

Peace..

Re: CAT 2008 Study group for kolkata - 02-01-2008, 10:49 PM

My research findings on the various coaching centres:
1. IMS: course fee is 23,900.(one time payment)
number of module tests: around 25 (who cares)
number of mockcats: 8 (all india)
other exams: don't remember.

2. TIME: course fee: 22,950. (provide scholarship on tests and last year's CAT percentile).{provide installment facility: in my centre, I hadda pay 10 grand on start and rest 5450 divided between the next two months. I got a scholarship of 7500 so thats y the wierd addition.
number of module tests: dunno...maybe they don't even have that.
number of mock cats: last year was 15.(all india)
other exams: 10 (2 SNAP, 2 IIFT, 1 FMS, 5 XAT)

Now my views: (you may blatantly disagree..)
IMS is a much more organized instt. They have a better R&D team.
TIME kicks you in the ass and makes you sit up straight and take notice..lol....
Anyways all said and done, I joined TIME bcoz of three reasons:
1. saved money.
2. more tests.
3. better coverage (55 or something centres across india)....

Hope I could clear some of your doubts and apprehensions..
All said and done, if a person's somewhat motivated,he/she would'nt bother much about which instt s/he's enrolled in....pagalguy serves the purpose for the preps....big time!!!

Peace..

Re: CAT 2008 Study group for kolkata - 03-01-2008, 02:55 PM

my two cents on classroom coaching for cat preps

i have never been a advocate of classroom coaching for cat preps, simply because neither I have had the time nor the inclination to attend classs regularly, plus I belong to the school of thought that for an aptitude test like CAT,more than coaching and mugging you require self assessed smart preparations...I have never taken classroom coaching for mba entrance preparations, and I think I have done quite ok without them...

all said and done, these classes do keep you focused and on your toes so you dont lose track of your preps like many non classroom students,me including do sometimes...
acc to me test series and taking as many tests as possible whether at home or at a centre is very important, but more important is adding something to our prep from each test we take, and that we can do by analysing ecah and every test we take
