Puys...

This is wrt to Q 73 in Set 222 -> The cricket council that was/were elected...

I am bothered about the second sentence in this question

The critics censored/censured the movie for its social unacceptability...

All instis seem to unilaterally agree that its censured..But I am not so sure...Censured seems too strong a word...It literlly means harsh criticism...While censor has a direct connotation with the film industry for its connection with the censor board which regulates content in movies...

Now if we say that the sentence talks about critics and not the censor board, then, who are the members of the censor board - these are themselves critics in a way right...

in one moment of absolute carelessness, evn i marked 'censored', but i kno 4 sure it is censured..the reason is- 'censor' means to 'cut' parts of the movie (that is to edit it , to leave it out), and it has no relation to the critics' job..which is to appreciate or criticize the movie..

Re: CAT 2007 Discussions: Verbal Ability Section - 22-11-2007, 01:04 PM

" how abt the critics in censor board...censoring the movie...because of social unacceptability...?"...censor board does have critics rite..further critics give opinion..abt the movie.....not harsh criticism...

Morover..the harsh criticism is for a person..or may be a director/producer of movie...how can u have harsh criticism for the movie???...it has to be censored...

PS: i think IIM shd outsource the CAT paper....they just cant make an unambiguous paper....

Sorry but my personal opinion is it should be censure. It has to be that. It can't be censor.

u can censure anything..it exactly means 'criticise harshly' n thr is absolutely no conditions regarding its usage..it is just that we come acrooss peopl being censured more often, it seems like the only usage..but if u read film criticisms, u'll find this word used many a times..

(btw, i hav marked 'censored' :( )

I am not sure of this..Who is the censor board really - these are the critics...appointed with the sole responsibility of evaluatiing movies and checking for social unacceptability....Why would critics "severely criticize" for a societal cause...

The movie connection still forces me to consider censored...
