Workshop for CAT by Arun Sharma - Mumbai - 27-10-2007, 12:24 PM

Just checked yesterday's Mumbai Mirror and found out that Arun Sharma is conducting 4-hr free workshop on CAT at vidyalankar, Dadar(E).

The timings are :
27 Oct 5.00 p.m. - 9.00p.m.
28 Oct 8.00 a.m - 12.00 noon
28 Oct 1.30 p.m. - 5.30 p.m.

I wonder if the moderators would call this advertisement since I'm posting this just for the benefit of all puys!
For registration:

I am coming for the session on 27th since I have to give Aimcat on Sunday and I am not going to miss it at any cost. So any puys from Mumbai coming?

Cheers!

Am curious to know how was the workshop Shweta ? can you tell me how was your experience and how did you find Arun Sharma as a person ?

Am based in Bangalore though would have loved to be there given a chance.

In btw i have a curiousity if Arun conducts some classes of his own or if he is involved in something else ?

Just wanted to know

Re: Workshop for CAT by Arun Sharma - Mumbai - 31-10-2007, 12:06 PM

From what I know Of Arun Shrama, he is based in Lucknow and conducts his classes there. Must say he has a huge success rate. I guess he has formed an association with Vidyalankar - an institute which is mostly known for engineering entrance in Mumbai. If they have franchisees in your city then probably they may organise it there.

Well about the session. I feel it was a great experience. Four hrs were truly powerpacked. Although this session was mainly focussed on DI (Which he claims is his strongest section), he also gave good tips as to what is to be done in the last 20 days and how to improve QUANT. The booklet given was mainly 2005-06 DI sets which I atleast had already spent hrs analyzing. Still I found this session good coz he actually explained how he step by step wrote(yes r all the information collected and then systematically deduced each and every answer. He also said that most institutes give really tough sets which involve twice the number of deductions than the actual CAT has(yawn, that is what we've been experiencing since the last 18 mocks ?? and one shouldn't get disheartened by percentiles but instead focus on getting 40-50% of the total marks which is enuf to get calls in actual CAT.

For the last 20 days, he recommended breaking up the QA/DI sections into pages/sets of 2 and then attempt the easier ones and not to extend ones time spent on any pg/ caselet beyond 10 mins. I actually found this advice very useful and have started scoring 99+ in both CL and IMS while in AimCATs I have been able to breach the 97%ile mark!

Well thats all I could get from this session. Sorry for posting that no., let me know guys how did u find this and do inform if any other session in happening.

Cheers!

Well he read each n every sentence one by one and then wrote down all the information that he got, for example, the Erdos set in CAT 2006 the wrote down all the authors a,b.c.d.e and the erdos nos that each one may possibly have, most of the caselets we do (atleast I) tend to read the info and then solve, ion which we miss out on some info and make silly mistakes. This can be avoided in DI atleast by jotting the info down. And no, its not time consuming because we are assured of 100% accuaracy i.e. 20 mks in CAT for which (we counted) 10 mins are quite reasonable. I just attempted CL mk 1 a couple of days back, if you would see, the first set was rather difficult but following the policy of breaking section in groups of 2 sets I saw the second set in which there was minimal information required and gave me 100% accuaracy. After analysing the paper, I realised that had I followed my earlier approach, I would have got the first set wrong, and missed out on a easier set which totally shot up my marks by (hold your breath) 45Mks! I got 148 mks in Cl mock CAT finally with an approximate %ile of 99.5+. As for maths he jus said that we need to spend time on EACH and EVERY page and not miss out on sitters by allocating equal time to all. On an average, he said, 3 qs per page are enough for you to sail through in a 6-7 page section. One thing that he asked us was to analyse all our past papers and practise this exercise and see how many marks we had lost out because of not spotting/ giving enuf time to certain pages/sitters.
