What i wanted to know is that if i give CAT in 2009....would it qualify as a drop year...would that affect my chances in PI....

Normally B-schools allow you some time to join, after the joining date.... if you give them a proper reason. Your reason of the college date should be sufficient enough. I've seen quite a few posts in other b-school threads where people joined around a month late because of late release date from their job. I've also seen this in my college. So this should not be an issue.
If for this reason you're planning for CAT 2009, I would advise you not to wait for another year. Your preparation can still be fine tuned in the last few months. Just identify your strengths and weakness and try to minimize your weak areas (you can't eliminate them though, probably no one can)
And regarding joining TCS, you only have to think about it after you've appeared for all GD/PIs for CAT '08 (provided you appear for it). After that you can review your position and take a call.
