Re: CAT 2008 Aspirants - 04-08-2008, 03:24 PM

iam in 3rd year of MAIT doing Btech. I want to know whats the best time to join any coaching institute. whether i should prefer the institute near my home or the branch having its best faculty(rated by many delhiites, TIME CP) which is faraway from my home?

what i have thought is to start preparing from books till Jan/Feb and then join any, howz it? Please tell me some books for RC,QA.

Please guide me, i will be grateful to you.

Dude first consideration must be the ease with which u can commute...There is no point in goin 25 kms away for attendin classes...U won't be able to give that much effort to ur studies after travellin for 50 kms...All coaching sntis are almost similar...n in my view a coachin insti is as good as its student...So if u can put in effot then join nethin..It ll do...on the other hand juz coachin n no effort won't take u anywhere...Make sure u join good test series to gauge ur performance..rest all is myth.....

Since u are in 3rd yr joinin classes frm now ll be too early...Strt studyin a lil bit...Maybe devlop intrest in non fiction n all to help u in RC...n join instis after jan only...If u strt too early it ll result in a burnout till D Day...

ATB
Cheers

What i wanted to know is that if i give CAT in 2009....would it qualify as a drop year...would that affect my chances in PI....
Also m placed in TCS..but i don't really wanna join...Your advice would be appreciated...
Normally B-schools allow you some time to join, after the joining date.... if you give them a proper reason. Your reason of the college date should be sufficient enough. I've seen quite a few posts in other b-school threads where people joined around a month late because of late release date from their job. I've also seen this in my college. So this should not be an issue.

If for this reason you're planning for CAT 2009, I would advise you not to wait for another year. Your preparation can still be fine tuned in the last few months. Just identify your strengths and weakness and try to minimize your weak areas (you can't eliminate them though, probably no one can)

And regarding joining TCS, you only have to think about it after you've appeared for all GD/PIs for CAT '08 (provided you appear for it). After that you can review your position and take a call.

There are many...Dependin on ur leveal of QA...
If u are pretty good with basics u can strt with Arun Sharma or Nishith Sinha...
Else if u want to review ur basics first then go to RS Aggarwal n likes of it...

And if u really think u can slaughter QA in CAT then dude..Dun waste ur time in QA Study VA ....

Hi
i m a passout of dce...with a agrregate of 57%:frown: because of this low % and various other reasons, i cudnt get an on campus offer....
right now m searching for a job but hard luck so far !! as far as cat is concerned i m very much serious about that and m in my full flow n scoring quite well..
m in a big dilemma what to do now...should i go for a job or not ??
if i get a job, no doubt that will effect my preparation and i dont want that to happen...and moreover work experience of those few months will not be taken into account at the time of interview, i guess (of course if i happen to get a call) !! i want guidance from u experienced peoples what shud i do ??
n also , with this profile can i get into an iim or is it just a mirage for me ?? plz be honest ....
thanks in advance....

with any score of above 50% you can get into an IIM...

also i would suggest you to try and get into a job because:
1) there is no gurantee that you would get admission into an MBA coll of your choice
2) it becomes difficult to convert the interview if you say that you have taken a drop to prepare of cat (i said difficuly but it still is highly possible)

doont worry if you are really dedicated you can make it through even while working

This is one big misconception that u can't study while you work...
Try here hundreds/thousands of PGites earn dollars/pounds for thier respective companies n still find time to study somehow...
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/cat-an...onals-143.html (CAT 2008 for Working Professionals)

If u think workin 9-10 hr a day will take toll on you...then u r underestimating urself...
I suggest u read some of these
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/cat-an...king-best.html (Inspiring stories of CAT cracking or The Best of 'All I wanted to speak about CAT')

This will give u much needed propulsion....Like they give to everyone... Welcome to big PG family n of course there are thousands..oops lakhs of ppl to help you out...
