Read, read n read is what i would say. Read newspaper regularly n look up n note down any new words u encounter along with their meanings/ synonyms.
U can go thru the word lists provided by any of the coaching classes, even Barrons will be good.
Just chill. All the best
i spare 1.5 hours in VA and 1 hr for PS/DI together... but still the patience never pays....

First of all ... Mocks are only for constructive feedback.. how does it matter when the final day CAT is nowhere related to it...
Just stay calm and analyze whats going wrong.. i feel that you are only getting too anxious and getting into self destructive mode... just relax and concentrate... analyze where you are going wrong. The next mock is always there to improve...

At this point the percentile sounds nice. You have to work really hard to maintain it. You are defenitely on the track. So now ur motive should be maintaining this percentile plus trying to clear all three cutoffs. Once you are able to manage that u can try for getting cool percentile+ clearing all three cutoffs+ maximising ur score in section(s)

So whatever strategy that u find works for u is the best one. also talk to responsible people ( like coaching centre heads et all) on how to fine tune ur strategy

Time material is gr8 but i will suggest to find time to refer other materials also. there is a tendency of institutes to get fixated on a set of question patterns. A CL/IMS book might give u a smarter question or better shortcut. It can happen vice versa also. refering to CL/IMS book, u can understand that TIME method is the best one for u etc...

Re: CAT 2008 Aspirants - 25-07-2008, 03:03 AM

I've gone thru most of the posts on this thread. Last year, before I decided to take classes for CAT, I had a discussion on PG of which coaching to join. Most people suggested Tiime, IMS. Someone suggested I take a round of all instis, look at the cat07 study material, take a few free mock tests even though I was not taking CAT-07. So I went from insti to insti, spoke to faculty in these places. Later, also dug out material from people I got to know. Since at that time I was too busy, I only started in January 08. CAT-08 is my first attempt. Based in all the digging I did, I joined Career Forum. The study material is excellent for all areas, but the verbal ability is the best of all. I also found all classes very good. Again verbal teaching scores high in my opinion. As for the Mock tests, well, I haven't really been scoring very well, but they are excellent. The PreCATs are very tricky and make you really think. I am thinking of an additional test series (cl/time) if i can find the time....

hi that's a good opinion Neha,
but I'd slightly differ from you regarding the word list advice...
i don't think that word lists are needed for the CAT exam...
i agree its a nice way to come across new words and learn them...but at the same moment what i have myself realized is that until you don't use those words in your daily vocab...you are never going to learn it...at least its the case with me keeping in view the fact i am very bad at mugging...
if you are good at it then you must give it a shot...

alternatively you can always read extensively to get the knack of the words and their respective usage...i believe that will solve the purpose more efficiently...

well of course! i certainly didn't mean that one shd mug up the words. There is a way to do the word list, and if u find urs, then it can prove to be a great tool.

My way:
I read the word, its meaning, its synonyms, then look it up in the dictionary coz there i find even more synonyms for it, then use the word in 1-2 sentences. Also, try n figure out the connotation of the word: whether its negative or positive. And, try to associate the word with a person u know. For eg: take the word parsimonious. Associate with someone u know who is actually parsimonious!!

hi Neha,
even i didn't mean to piss you off...
i apologize if i did that...
your way of learning is a good one...
i ll share mine...
whenever i find an unacquainted word in any reading (whether it be newspaper or any book) i look for the meaning of the same along with the synonyms and antonyms...
i find it quite effective while reading something on the internet using Firefox browser...it gives an option to select the word and search it via Google on right clicking the word itself...
it gives an extensive usage of the word even it is not in any dictionary but is present in encyclopedia...
