Madadi,

Yes I say accuracy plays an important role - but not in calculating your percentile. It plays an important role because the more accurate you are, the lesser the negative marking, the more your score and hence your percentile.

Ultimately it is the score that you get which gives you the percentile.

Cheers.

Percentile
tells you the percentage of students (out of the total
number of students appearing for exam) whose score is less than your score in the particular section or the entire paper. Accuracy will make no difference as its score that is taken into consideration. However a good accuracy will help you improve your score.

Accuracy is very important to improve your overall score and thereby bring about an increase in your percentile as well.

Let me explain you with an example.

In a paper having 75 Questions with 25 in each section; 4marks for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong one; an individual will not be attempting all the 25 in each section (unless of course he is specially gifted).

SO assuming that you attempt 15 questions in each sections(This brings down your attempt to 60 marks in a section).

You will be scoring a total of 60 only when your accuracy is 100%.
If you fare with an accuracy of 80% your score will end up at45(-3 for wrong ones and 48 for the correct)

But if you accuracy slumps below 60% you will not be able to score above 30 and probably will miss out on the cut-off's.

So, effectively, its not only the attempts that matter but also the accuracy.

CAT-2008: 98.19%ile

Re: CAT 2008 Aspirants - 30-06-2008, 01:38 PM

Hey puys,

I had taken the CAT last year and got a %ile of 92.XX(while I was working). Had GD/PI calls from NMIMS, SCMHRD, FMS etc but could not convert them. I had taken only Mocks & not FT classroom coaching.

I have quit my job now and am focusing on CAT 2008. I may take up a job in mid-August / September once my Mock Scores become stable. I have taken up AimCATs this year.

Would guys recommend taking another Mock series, say SimCATs etc. Should I go in for some sort of classroom coaching this yr, is it any good ?. Or should I focus on my prep on my own.

I would appreciate any enlightenment on this !!

Thanks in advance

Not only am I not learning, I'm forgetting stuff I used to know

I think you can prepare for CAT on your own...U had a pretty decent score last yr so I dun think u need a classroom....Juz work on ur skills n u ll be thru....haan at a later stage u can join some classes for GD/PI as u said u were not able to convert ur calls last yr....
But AIMCATS or MOCKCATS will ceratainly be of help as it will acclamatizr u to D Day...

Cheers
