No of Qs - 75

CAT as a paper is slowly moving towards testing your concepts than speed.
If ever a paper does justice to the term 'thinking on your feet' then CAT surely qualifies for it
There can never be visual reasoning Qs in CAT, so relax and rev up your preparations

If you have been doing vedic maths previously then its good go for it.
But if you are doing vedic maths solely for CAT then I suggest you rethink.
Newbies at vedic maths find it difficult in pressure situations to remember the formulae and apply it correctly.

Hello Everyone !
Well , I have long way for appearing for CAT , as I am still in my first yr engg rite now . Though still I wish to get familiar with CAT as much as possible .
I am completely newbie in this field , rite now I just know that CAT exam is divided into 3 sections
1. verbal ability and comprehension.
2. Problem solving.
3. Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning.
When exactly does Cat exam takes place? Is it Same every year ? Like towards the end of year?
So how does one starts preparation for it ? I have gone through few posts through which i came to know some people are joining classes, are classes must if you are an MBA aspirant ? And what are the resources to study from for the required subjects?
Well, my english is poor as well , and I am no more familiar or remember much of grammar sub topics , so should one start understanding grammer and studying it?
GK , fine , one has to be sound with outside world and whats going around . I will work on it.
Its not that I have to take a long dive now, but few advice I am expecting on what can i start with at my position . As soon my vacation will start, and I dont want to waste it .
I just want to know, What should i start with ? Please , awaiting for replies.
Thank you.

hey buddy,,,,,
you are probably starting at the perfect time....
things to do:
read the news paper daily, specially the edetorials....
also read a business magzine like business today regularly.....
this you give you a lot of reading practice which is absolutely essential for cat, it woudld improve your reading speed/grammar/vocub/GK all in one go.....
cat is always in the 3rd week of nov.......
also try to build your profile....
participate in as many intercollege events you can.....
rest can wait....
if you start on these things now...
you would have a much simpler times ahead

Here is the answer to ur questions.
CAT Takes place in the 3rd sunday of Nov every year.
joining a class is good for the first time as it gives u a better picture.
grammer must me understood...esp for sentence correction type questions. for Reading Comprehensions, you dont need it.
First find similar minded ppl from ur acquaintance who r taking (or taken) CAT for suggestions...like they can tell u better abt the opportunities in ur city...get hold of study materials and start doing basics. Join a test series too. More info abt this can be found in various threads of this forum.

hi anurag,
definitely you can crack cat...
only IIMB has a criteria which gives quite an importacne to graduation scores...
rest all IIMs more or less see the CAT score and the individual (some pay consideration to work-ex too)...
if u can get a score in excess of 99.5 with gud sectionals...its definite that u can get a call or two from IIMs...
rest you can check it yourself at CAT IIM - 2007
hope it helps... :-)

Nice to see you are starting so soon for the CAT.
However i would just like to add a point that the CAT is most probably going online from 2009.
So there is a great chance that there will be several changes in the pattern to make it more effective.
Moreover we can only predict how the online system would work out.
But no harm in preparing from now. As such the core testing strategy would remain same.
