Re: CAT 2008 Aspirants - 24-05-2008, 01:21 PM

Hello everyone ,
I am a mechanical engineer ..just completed my final semester exams. I am placed in infotech enterprises and i am asked to join them by july 14th.
coming to CAT ..i took one year cat coaching at time. my first experience of cat exam is not discouraging. its 90.2 percentile. That was more than what i expected with the kind of preparation i had.
now i want to take CAT seriously...and here i am in a dilemma of choosing between
a) get work experience of min 1.5 yrs along with cat preparation
b) just completely concentrate on cat preparation for 2008.

There are no family pressures to take up a job.( no responsibilities). I dont have good communication skills . i doubt this will be a problem for me to clear GD and PI.
so my only concern is to improve my skills...now do u think its possible for me to improve myself in this short period..or shud i work for some time and then try to crack CAT.
As the joining date is coming closer ..am increasingly tensed ...am unable to make a decision. seniors..please put in ur inputs and guide me..
waiting for ur replies..

hiii suresh ...

i was in similar postion last yr... i left d job n concentrated on cat ... my advice is ask ur self wht u wanted ... u can always give cat on later stages n even gmat .... in my case i was not willing to do sw job as i felt m not d person who would be happy playin with codes.also m a bit lazy person n job+cat was not for me.moreover i wanted to devote one yr of my life to cat so tht i dont hv any complaint in future.. therefore i decided to left it n my family was with me !!!

ask urself how much u ll be happy/satisfy doin d job n can u handle job + cat preparation..together.... if u decide to drop d job thn go hard on cat.... n be positive . n if u decide to go with job thn also u need not worry.. u will hv lot of options in coming future... but listen to ur heart .... analysis urself n c wht u want from heart....

n u can always improve ur other skills side by side.... only trust urself!!!!!

best of luck

cheers!!!

hiiii kanika....

ohh again last yr i went through this..... i always used to say tht for cat one can sit inside d room ,lock d door n can prepare hard for it.. but for gdpi its one to one fight... at times i used to think this but at d same time i used to trust myself .. thts very imp. TRUST URSELF ...... be confident....

just for d info , i want to share my gdpi experience of imt with u.... tht was my first gdpi ... n gd was like a fish market... n i could not speak a single word.. yes not even a single word in gd.... thn i had stress interview (tht was mostly common to everyone)....... n i felt tht i was really cool n handling everything calmly but i never thought tht i ll clear imt.... n finally i got mba-it at imt.....

so morale of the story ,... never underestimate ur self ... trust urself n go hard on things..... be positive .... n yes i never read any books n all those stuff.... talk to urself in eng .... it helps..... n on lighter side best way to practice eng is call to customer care (mobile) n start talkin to them in eng.... u ll gain confident for sure slowly slwly.....

n plssss be postive!!!!

best of d luck

cheers!!!!

Hi kanika as far as i think its simply a mental barrier that you need to overcome. And trust me there can be no better tool than practice. Try to get into a nice lill group and make it a point to have a discussion 4 atleast an hour everyday. The progress may initially be slow but slowly and steadily you will gain confidence . And you have enough time to do that before ur gd pis. Also once u overcome that initial hitch try to speak at unfamiliar places. Like participate in the local debates etc . This will further boost your confidence . Just have faith in your self and keep trying , you will definately evolve.

Love can spice up ur life, but u'll need food first.
