Re: CAT 2008 Aspirants - 09-05-2008, 10:57 AM

hi puys,
need some guidance...

i have joined time's correspondence course for cat 08...
they have given loads of material...which i am working upon...
i need a method on how to proceed with the vocabulary books...i am unable to figure out how to do that part...
i am a regular reader and do read novels and other stuff which i come across (along with news papers n all)...the thing i am confused bout is that whether i need to mug up the words like a GRE wordlist or something else...
please suggest a way out...

regarding the other subjects...i have started like this...2-3 hours daily...one day QA, other day VA...then the next day DI...

is this approach fine?? or i need to do something else...??

Hi ragav,

disclaimer:Always go for a second opinion

The classic way to learn wordlists is as we all know Hindu editorial in one hand+ cofee in other hand+dictionary in ur lap I addition to that we can also use wordlists/cue cards
sincerely speaking, even i felt that cue cards of TIMEor Vocab book of IMS wont give that much help. I think that we cannot learn words alphebetcially..If we are going through the word list its like
AMOROUS
AMORPHOUS etc right?....Personally i felt that it is quite difficult to learn words in that fashion. So during my free time I had created an alternate word list from the IMS book. I took a notebook and started writing the words randomly. so its like Amorous in page 1 and amorphous in page 17. So say after filling up 1-25 pages, it will be lil bit easier to learn...You cannot learn all the words..But u can learn some...

ps: its time consuming..but a silly task..so u may ask ur lil bro/sis ( if any) to help u out....

i do think that its a very good approach at this point.Like this pls finish off ur basics and when the mock season starts, one can take mocks analyse it and comeback to respective chapter for revision/fine tuning...

thanks for the reply chekidu,
i just wanted to share that i tried to learn the baron's wordlist in my college days along with a friend of mine who was preparing for GRE...
i found that thing very faltoo...flash cards n all...everytime mugging the words...
instead i have tried this newspaper approach...it is quite useful due to the fact that we get to learn the actual use of the word itself...

actually i practice the same till date (not on a regular basis, twice or thrice in a week) but i was particularly baffled on seeing the same wordlist in the course contents...that's why thought to have an opinion of u puys...

i think i must continue with the same old newspaper strategy...:-)
