Dealing with pressure is difficult, particularly when you can't tell anyone that you're preparing for CAT. But believe me, it's not impossible. You have many live examples here on pg who have managed to bell the cat despite working in high pressure situations.
Anyways, it's easier said than done. However, you should work out a schedule where you can atleast give 1 hr to study everyday, barring a day or two, when you're really stressed out. You have to see that the 1 hr I'm saying is 1 hr worth of studying, not merely sitting with a book without understanding. There's a lot of difference between the two and I hope you know it, having prepared for around 4 months now.
Regarding the onsite issue, I suggest that if possible, try and coax your pm to advance your journey, maybe from june/july onwards or else, to shorten the duration of it. But if both ways don't work, I would suggest you to not get bogged down much and go ahead as that experience would come really handy when you appear for interviews etc prob next yr (that is for CAT '09). Or else, for '09 you can even go for GMAT and aim for even better institutes.
But if you're really hell bent on taking cat this year and if things don't work out for you at work, you should tell your pm about your wish to take cat this yr and if still it doesn't work, there's no alternative but to leave. But if you do leave, do have a ready answer explaining your reasons because this would be one question in almost every interview you face

hey Tanmay,
i am also working in a s/w firm...
wat i am suggestisng you is my personal opinion...
i think you must go onsite as per your work demands...
i see two benefits in the same...first u'll get (as usual word) exposure related to your work...second u'll have a value added to your resume regarding the work ex you will be showing for MBA...
may be possible that your stay is extended there itself...aur vaise bhi onsite ke mauke iss duniya main kam hi milte hain...
reagrding your prep for this year's exam...it won't go to the dirt bin straight way...
i m sure u 'll be able to use it anytime u like...:-)

Hello everyone,
This is shashank, currently in final mbbs frm mumbai,an aspirant for cat 2009. Just wanted to ask as to how n when to start preparations for the same. Also is joining coaching important if not necessary? I dont think i wud b able to spend time on them. Also even though a medico i m in gud touch with maths n pretty good at it. Any advice from puys who were medicine grads n went on to make it to the best b-schools on how they managed to crack the entrance tests wud really b helpful.
Thanks in advance

hey shashank nice to c a medico here. well i guess its a typo by you are you preparing for cat 08 or 09?
well anyways. well i will try to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.
as far as joining a coaching insti is concerned, see you just need to be regular, If you can do the same by studying consistently for 1-2 hrs a day i think that will suffice.and just go thru basic stuff i mean class 10 and 12 maths and read some articles daily for comprehension needs.
follow one or two magazines.
I think that will be enf and yes try coming to PG regularly to get the latest updates ;-)
hope this helps
Cheers

Hi
If u r targeting CAT09, I think joining a coaching center will be good coz CAT wud go online from that year and you need to adapt well to such a change. Mind you, I am not saying that coaching is necessary. I did not take coaching myself and still managed to secure quite a good percentile. It all depends on u as a person.
Being a medico, u stand a good chance of converting the final call. Very few medicos go for CAT and all the institutes are currently vying for diversity in their PGDM batches.
Hope it helped.

Hello Greenboy,
All the study material published by the institutes is very basic.
It is meant to clear the dust of your brains.
Its good that you know your weakness.
This is the link where you can get grammar guidance.
Guide to Grammar and Writing
It is very useful for the grammar rules and has a lot of quizzes.
This should help you clear the basics.
Lot of quality reading will help you in the RC.
Try to read international authors/editorials.
But you also need to practice the same, at the end of day if you
do not answer correctly it would be of no use.
One RC a day would help you a lot.
For Verbal Logic,
You can try some GMAT material. There is lot of material online.
You can search for the same.
It is only practice with Mock tests and ANALAYSIS of the same can help you improve the score as you have already finished the material once.
Regards
Anuj
