Buddy u can start taking it from right now even if u're not prepared no problems.....it will give u an idea of what to prepare atleast even if u land ureself a lowly percentile.....And when u prepare for the "whole thing" there's nothing like that yaar, there's no defined portion u can do or anything.....atleast in my opinion or from my experience I learnt along with the mock cats....infact even at home I'd prepare mostly not from books but by solving old TIME (and a few CL, CF papers) initially without a time limit and with a few months to go for the CAT with a time limit.
But yea the biggest challenge if u start early is the "burn out"........30 Aimcats later u'll feel very drained out......though the mocks are only on Sundays it is not the only day that u think about it(I gave the Simcats btw) The day before the mock I'd call my friends and discuss stuff like how do u think the variety would be, would it be a 150 or a 75 question paper tomm?.....will the toughest section be DI this time since it was maths last time?....stuff like that. The Sunday is completely gone since even after the paper the whole day would go discussing it, analysing mine and other's performances, solving unsloved questions, etc etc.
The next 2 days would fly away anticipating the results and hoping for a 99, checking the IMS website every day till they upload (no kidding it was an obsession).......and finally the remainder of the week analysing ure result comparing it with others and of course preparing for the next mock
The point is that it is "very draining"
And the solution is don't do what I did......people get lost in the mire of mocks and percentiles...at the end it does not matter if u were a TIME topper if u don't perform on that crucial day
Just prepare in a very normal way without tension, taking a break now and then, once u have given ure mock DO NOT ask a hundred people how were their papers and try estimating ure percentile blah......once u're done with the mock just let it go......take a break of 2 days and then solve the unsolved quests if u must that's it...and as the cliche goes "The CAT (though a lot) is not the end"....there can't be a truer cliche...ATB!!
