hi Anuirudha,
i have been guided by the fellow puys here to go for TIME correspondence material...
i think first you must have a look at the materials yourself (may be thru ur frends or smone else)...
then decide according to your requirement...which suits you...more or less all are the same content wise ...

Re: CAT 2008 Aspirants - 07-04-2008, 10:41 AM

hey i'm giving cat 2008.. this is my 1st shot at it. i've joined time classes and have been attending since feb 08. i'm a final yr student of comp sci engg from RVCE and i've final yr projects right now. how many hrs a day do u think we should all put in since there are only about 7 months left? i haven't adopted any strategy yet. my strengths are:
english: vocab, grammatical corections, word usage etc
quant: algebra(to an extent), goem, percentages,P&L..
di: pie charts, venn diagrams

weaknesses: loads
english: rc can be a weakness
quant: perm and combi, prob( to an extent), mensuration,etc..
di: bar charts, etc
plus the tendency to make silly mistakes. slow calculations and taking tension during exams..

even i would like to post and compare my progress with others..esp those who've started their prep now only like me..do let me know and we could help each other maybe..

hey Venkat...
u've come out all guns blazing...:2gunfire:
many questions in a single go...:-)

i think once u ll read this thread...of course no the whole...u ll get to know what the fellow puys are upto...
many have discussed their strategies regarding the CAT preparation in quite a detail here...

i think u must go through this thread first...

PS...it'd have been very time consuming to answer ur all queries...thats why such an answer...

Re: CAT 2008 Aspirants - 07-04-2008, 12:49 PM

hello to all.....

I am apperaing for CAT 2008 and have started my preparations now :whatthat:...hope i am not late....i appeared for CAT 2007 and ended up with sad 97.8 percentile.....

This time i want to give it my best shot of life......Have gone thru the thread (Yet not Completely )...I am expecting some guidance from fellow puys as i am bit frightened to be late....

Well i have a gudd command on Quant..scored respectable 99.6 percentile in it last year.......but DI is the weakest section whr i scored pity 81 percentile....Also abt RC i am not very confident...

To start with...please givv some suggestions on some novels to go thru....how to improve my english...
And how to make DI a scoring part.....

If you can imagine it you can create it. If you can dream it, you can become it......:grab:

hi Anupama,
i also faced the same problem as yours in CAT 07 and ended up with VA being my nemesis...
what i have learned on the very thread is that read those topics with whom you feel uncomfortable...say psychology...etc...
reading those type of abstract articles (whether from books or newspapers) will enhance the vocab along with giving a knack for such things...
it helps a lot...I've tried it myself...
novels as suggested to me are The Fountainhead...Atlas Shrugged...(although haven't read myself till now) along with many other classics...(u can find on the VA forums)...
for economics u can go through standard textbooks suggested...

for DI practice is the only key...whether it be from material or books...

thnx a lot Raghav for all valuable info....but still i am in a dilemma...Actually i am a wrking professional...working as a finance engineer ....so i get very less time to devote for CAT....at this point of time wen april has already started....how should i plan my strategy to catch up d pace.....
Well i am also new to PG...so can u suggest the way to gain maximum benefit and guidance from here.....

Anupama,
it all depends on your comfort levels with the respective portions (QA VA DI)...if u think u r not so good in DI then u must make a consistent habit of doing at least 2 sets for the same everyday...(same is the case with QA too)
whereas in case of VA u'll need to start rigorously right now...
reading ability can't be spurred up to the desired result in a few days...it needs a lot of patience and hard work...
as you have said u r a working professional (like yours truly)...the free time in the ofc can be used for reading on the internet (which no doubt u must be having access to) to improve on the reading ability...
start at least an hour a day for the overall prep...it ll help u a lot in the coming days...
PS keep posting on PG as it improves English at least to some extent...(although a lot for me)
