Hi
I would suggest IMS classroom at the regional HQ and TIME mock CATS.
If brush up means the basics then 10-12 commerce text books and if you need probs, then Arun Sharma for concepts and decent probs and
RS Agarwal which has ONLY probs but the difficulty level is average.

all the best

Re: CAT 2008 Aspirants - 12-03-2008, 09:41 AM

1. Cant say about lectures but IMS TEST SERIES rocks!! no other word for it.....agreed none of them simulated CAT'07 but then which mock CAT did that? not Aimcats not CL mocks nothing....8 simcats and each of them so distinctly different such that if this doesnt help nothing will.....as for at home u can try get Aimcats and solve them nuthing against these papers or their quality but in my opinion they are too tough and a lil farther from the CAT simulation wise as compared to other mocks (Ive highlighted it so that TIME students dont pounce on me:wink:.)....CL papers are decent enugh too.

2. And pls do not ever solve more than a paper a day...try taking breaks small ones to think about things other than the CAT or IIM'S trust me it'll help..I exhausted myself with the SIMCATS and the thousand other mocks and was thoroughly spent 3 days before C-Day....luckily took a break of 2-3 days and was kinda well just kinda refreshed for the day.

3. And finally u might call this being too futuristic, but be CURIOUS from today! Read newspapers, magazines, log on to wikipedia, etc etc coz when u finally do get a call u'll find ureself thrown in an ocean and u realise u dont kno to swim. and think about Why MBA too? This is for the GD/PI of course but trust me it wont hurt too do a bit of soul searching....U neva kno it mite come useful:wink: All da best to all!

Agree with almost all your views except the one in which you said "they are way too tough".

I think it's very difficult for even the coaching centres to predict the CAT pattern and in that respect, it's better to form a paper which although has a good balance of easy and tough questions, but should have more of the tough ones. It should have more variety. I didn't go through the IMS test series but CL was quite good as compared to the others, I felt. It gave me a real feeling that these questions are the toughest and if I'm able to solve these, the CAT ones would be quite easy!!!

And it more or less turned out that way....

i gave papers of three test series:
PT: too easy......
TiME: Too difficult and highly improbable level of difficulty
IMS: very realistic except 1-2 papers

PS: all those who are serious about cat end up joining time and thats what ill suggest to any one who is really serious.....
but because all these geat ppl join time, its highly difficult to score well there and thus affects confidence

I agree that it's difficult to score well initially, but that's competition, and I believe if one practices well enough and according to the level of competition, he'll do well. And in any case, even if you manage to avoid the competition in the mock exams, you have to face them anyway in the main exam. So why not face them right now and try to formulate a strategy to get ahead of them??? There's much less fear of failure in the mocks, right???

buddy the two most imp things when giving cat are:
luck
and confidence.....

giving just time mocks you would surely not have the second......

I agree it is necessary to have the confidence to face the CAT.
But you should not get disillusioned by your performance in the easier tests.
At the end of the day, you have to face all the performers of all the classes on th C-day.

You should not approach the test with the notion that I am not good enough to face the competition. If you do that, then I dont think you can score even in the easiest of the exams.
You should beleive in yourself and understand the fact that you also have an equal chance of scoring 100%ile as the next guy. CAT is a great leveller, it does not distinguish between the academically brilliant and the average student. It gives an equal oppurtunity to all. Then, who are we to limit ourselves

Every test you take, be it mocks or the actual CAT, you should enter the venue with confidence, attempt the paper with confidence and forget about the past. What matters is your performance on THAT day. The rest is detail.

all the best
