Its a lush campus (almost inside a forest). Our library has access to all the management journals and magazines and a huge collection of CD's. We have a computing centre located as a separate facility and operates 24/7. BIM students get quarters (2 bedroom Hall Kitchen) for accomodation and not rooms. All our facilities (Class Rooms, Library, Computing Centre and Hostel) are WI-FI Enabled. We have access to the best databases in the world. Our infrastructure is on par with any premier B-School in India with an expection in our Hostel facilities which you can never imagine in any B-School in India. I believe this is what a B-School aspirant should look for in a B-school. About Reservation, BIM is promoted by the Government and we are bound by the government norms. You can compare this with what XIMB has for orissa candidates. This shouldn't be a deterrent for any one as this is in accordance with the government rules and is definitely not that high. | | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to kitchu83 For This Useful Post:

Can anybody throw some light on the life @ BIM campus.
I want to take an informed decision
Specifically speaking:-
1. The average %ile of those admitted in the reserved category for TN (i.e. for 70 out of 120 seats I guess)?
2. Is there strictness towards interaction b/w opposite genders (as is the case with other educational institutes in TN)? jus want to shut all mouths spreading rumours for TN colleges
3. Is the shared campus with BHEL of any advantage to the students?
4. Is there any biasness involved in treating south indian students as compared to the others?( am not asking in terms of faculty but within the students themselves)
Any inputs from Seniors will be highly appreciated........

Any inputs from Seniors will be highly appreciated........ | I have answered Q1 in my previous post. "Is there strictness towards interaction b/w opposite genders (as is the case with other educational institutes in TN)? jus want to shut all mouths spreading rumours for TN colleges" -- Ha ha ha.. Definitely not possible in BIM with close to 10 BIMMITES marrying fellow BIMMITES in almost every batch. Just because of loaction (TN in this case) none is deprived of a b-school life. Life in BIM is on par with any premier b-school and in many cases far ahead of many top b-schools with late night partying, dance floors, terrace parties, open air movie screening and what not. In short BIM rocks !!! I can vouch that every alumni cherishes every moment of his life in BIM. So, come join the party. I have answered Q3 as well in my previous post. "Is there any biasness involved in treating south indian students as compared to the others?( am not asking in terms of faculty but within the students themselves)" -- We celebrated HOLI 3 days back and I am finding in really hard to come back to normal colour. This answers it, right ? | Thnx, u cleared my doubts to quite an extent but, apologies if am sounding maverick, I would again ask you about
1. An idea (even %ile cut-offs will do) of those getting admitted in reserved category coz if u compare with XIMB, its jus about 25% of Orissies but in BIM more than 50% (around 70 out of 120).. correct me if am mistaken.
2. By an advantage of shared campus, I meant if there's any such strong alliance with BHEL that we can get associated with company personnels in case we're undertaking some deputation or research?
Rest of the scepticism has like evaporated n am really lukin forward to the institute provided it does the same for me | | | | | The Following User Says NO Thank You to ankitsonline For This Un-useful Post:

Rest of the scepticism has like evaporated n am really lukin forward to the institute provided it does the same for me | Q1- The reservation for TN candidates is only for the backward classes. The general candidates irrespective of their origin, fall under the general category. The cut-off for the reserved candidates from TN might be less than the general cut-off by 5 to 7 percentage points. A lot of subjective valuation goes into shortlisting these candidates. If you calculate the average percentile of a batch it would be greater than 92 %ile. Many TN candidates apply for BIM, but even in this population a good number of candidates are from the general category for whom the criteria is same like any other general candidate from anywhere in India. The percentage of TN candidates getting final calls from BIM being slightly high cannot be attributed to reservation. Its just a coincidence that many TN candidates apply. That's pretty much about it.
Q2- The startegic alliance with BHEL ensures sharing of infrastructure, knowledge partnership, research opportunities and university industry collaboration. BIM has a separate research wing called CECMAR (Centre for contemporary Management Research). CECMAR provides management consultancy to many firms in this belt and also undertakes a lot of research assignments. I hope I have answered you. Feel free to probe further. It's a pleasure answering them.

BIM is one of the premier B schools in india and certainly among top 5 in south india... so, as in any other B school, summer placements is an integral part of our curriculum and u need not worry abt that... infact, its mandatory that every student shud do a summer project to be eligible for getting into the second year.... hope that answers!! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
