hi Deeps,
i am a first year student at NITIE (PGDISEM) and here is a brief profile of the PGDISEM course at NITIE.
PGDISEM is a sustainability focused program which was introduced in 2000 as result of continued association and fruitful interaction with leading Indian business houses.
PGDISEM course basically serves the EH&S cell (Environment, Health and Safety) that most of the corporates have these days with core focus on sustainability. There are many aspects associated with this course and lot many dimensions are getting added as industies are realizing the importance of environment and safety. (Eg. corporate sustainability reporting)
The different type of sectors that one can look for and the job profile associated with that are as follows:
1. Manufacturing Industies like Asian Paints, Cadbury, Tata Motors etc. which focus on environmental, enegy and safety management.
2. Consultancies like KPMG, Ernst & Young, PWC are highly into environmental consulting to different corporates.
3. Carbon Finance and Carbon Trading in firms like Co2e,E&Y etc.,
4. In-house CDM project development in firms like Cargill Foods,Reliance etc.,
5. Audit & Certification firms like RINA Consultancy, DNV for internal and external environmental audits.
6. Financial and Funding Institutions like ICICI bank, HFDC bank for evaluating the environmental imapct of the projects they are funding.
7. IT industries like Infosys and others which are into software development for safety and have integrated EH&S into ERP.
8. Petrochemicals like Castrol, Bharat Shell, etc for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), environmental policies, safety management etc. which have been made mandatory by Govt. of India.
9. Pharmaceuticals like Aventis Pharma, Novaritis, etc.
10. Students also have the option to go for fields like Operations and SCM.
Erogonomics is an upcoming field in this area and NITIE has the only TIFAC-CORE and CEEHFE in India.
This is not an exhaustive list and there are many green fields to explore.
Some of the terms may be dicey and you can do the googling for them.
This is the only course of its kind in the whole of south-east Asia. The offers made to batch of 2007 include exciting profiles like EHS,Carbon Finance,CDM etc.,
we are in the process of summer placements and some of us have already been placed in Ernst&Young and Asian paints. We have a company called CantorCO2E that might come shortly... will keep you updated on the final summer results
PM me.. or post here in case you need further information.
Cheers,
