Even if i waste 5 mins on 1 q, I dont feel like doing the whole paper..(I feel that the others have already started scoring.. and there is not much of a chance now).. Have any of u felt this way?? ANd if so, could you please give me strategies to tackle it?? And in VA and RC- I feel that i used to do well in papers where there are many questions and accuracy doesnt matter too much..Also, I reallly need to increase my OAs also.. They are always hovering around 95.. did any of you face similar problems? Could you please please tell me how to improve..I have taken a lot of pains (as is evident) to write this post... many thanks in advance!!!

Well Pojo.
Frpm What I can make out of your post - I feel that you have the academics in place more or less.
You are confident about ENGLISH!
You have improved in MATHS.
DI anyways - for the average CAT taker is a matter of practice and having seen as many DI sets as possible.
Where - you do seem to be in trouble is the nerves department .
Remember - the CAT is only superficiallly about academics EU/QA/DI/LR...
It is more fundamentally about TIME MANAGEMENT/STAYING CALM UNDER PRESSURE/ CORRECT DECISION MAKING
Since you have already identified that you are managing Time and I hope you are selecting the right questions in the Mocks (You can verify this with your anlysis of the Mocks)..then you haveto strive for MENTAL TOUGHNESS...
Maybe yoga , maybe a bit of meditation could help you out there..
But you have to treat the CAT as a game between you and the examiner and you have to know that you want to win the game !!!
You are your own Kabir Khan and you are the Hockey team too!!
Remember there is glory to be won if you persevere..and dare!!
For every question in the CAT paper let Time be your guide.
You should know exactly how much time you want to allot per mark in the CAT paper...
Example : CAT 2006 : 300 mark paper; Roughly 33% of the marks fetches calls; you see a slightly easier maths paper; revise that to 35%-40% i.e. 120 marks to be done in 150 minutes.Which meant - attempt 40 questions - with 80% accuracy...actually it turned out that maths section was even easier and cut-off for 6 IIMs went even higher. But now you know that you have to do 40 questions and you spread them as per your expertise. You have roughly 3 minutes to devote per question and you might still be left with some buffer time of 15-20 minutes to increase your overall score. Also remember -to clear cut-offs -the key is Time Mangement - allot equal amounts time to all sections- if the section is tough attempts will come down automatically (cut-off will also be lower)- if the section is easy attempts will go up (cut-off will also be higher)...Just ensure that you are performing at the same level as your Mocks and the examiner does not play with your mind...
Regards
Tanveer

Also the sprints / Take -offs of CL should be ideal material for such practice.
Finally -round it off with DI sections of the last TEN Years CAT papers.
Attaching a document that you might find useful.
Also Hound some of the DI Gods to extract tips on DI from them...

The advise given above works pretty well. Initially i used to sruggle in DI. I cleared the cut off in my first mock, got 96% but in my very next mock i was down to 60% in DI...the dismal performance in DI continued for a while. when i analysed my performances, i noticed that the good percentiles were purely because of me striking the easier question, which was very rare.
To make the good performances frequent, I solved all the last year DI sets of TIME/CL. I also solved the DI MARATHON 2006 and 2007. It took me around 10 days to do all the material, but it gave me exposure to whole lot of problems. After the completion, there was a stark change in my attempting the paper. I could spot the easier questions, as i had pratised all sorts of DI sets.
You can work on this kinda statergy in preparing for you DI section.
Though you will flounder many a times, but learn from your mistakes and dont forget to analyse your performance throughly.....

Hey shweta,
He He.. ppl asking me for advice... thats a first
Well, I dunno if clearing the maths cutoff was a once in a lifetime thing or something..(Guess will know it this Sunday )..But u here goes my advice -->
The most important thing in maths is to pick easier questions.. i know it seems really cliched, and thats what everyone says... but give it a try.. i really dont think i have improved in maths as much as I have improved in spotting easy questions.. also, use the options to your advantage, many qs can be easily solved either by putting in random values or by directly lifting them from the options themselves..
And also, confidence plays a very important part.. If you think you are gonnna screw it, you probably will.
With regards to schedules, cant help u much there, am a s/w engg, with no time to study, leave alone make schedules :(
hope I was of some help
Regards

How to prepare Effective strategy for cracking CAT '08'
Hi all,
I am a 3rd yr student at IIIT-Allahabad and will be appearing for CAT 08.As for beignning i have joined CL classes and am regular in attending those.Obviously there is pressure for semester studies also most imp being my sem project.i just wanted to ask what should be the effective strategy for my prep....After appearing for my Engg enterances i just realised the reason i couldn't achieved as much i wanted to was my poor time managment and lithargic attitude(like ok i will do this tomorrow,le me sleep tonite)...I never used to make any deadlines and even if i made one i could never stick to it as only after a couple of days i lagged behind way 2 much
and so gave up.I sincerely believe I have it in me to b an IIM grad and so i just needed as to how to plan my CAT prep... By this i am not askin to give me schedule of say for ex: CAT prep from evening 6 to 11 at nite ....I just want to ask say for ex: by the end of october 07 wat all should be covered by me...for ex: if i am reading "WORD POWER MADE EASY " by norman lewis for my vocabs by wat time should i be able to finish it and wat should be the next move and how to go abt it...Also i would like to no how should one start prep for VA i.e. books recommended,Strategy etc for CAT....I hope this post is useful to all....
Thanx in advance

Namaskar
Introduction... Given CAT thrice and never cracked it.
One piece of advice (from somebody who has never cracked it ), just take it as any other exam.
The moment you starting taking it as CAT, it starts meowing back at you...
A little late, but still can be a great help

Hope that helps...

dude CAT is not simply a preperation of one year or some months. it is more about ur attittude rather than ur abilities , it is about ur 15 years of studies which u did so far.
so nobody knows better than urself abt you. if u think u have it in you to crack it , believe me surely u can do with in this time. but if u vont prepare with the right attittude even if we struggle for years together we cannot crack the CAT.
as per me dont drop any job just for the sake of CAT . because it is highly competitive exam , we never know what will happen till the result comes. also there are many people who cracked it while doing the job .
hope i could answer ur query.
cheers
