Post-IIT debut awaits IIM in Bihar - B-school to start class next academic year, admission through CAT Patna, Sept. 10: After IIT, it is the IIM, which is all set to make a debut in the so-called under-developed state.
The state government has set in motion the process to open a B-school after its success in securing the arrival of some top-class institutions, like the IIT, National Law School University and National Institute of Fashion Designing, in Bihar.
The late principal secretary of the human resource development department, Madan Mohan Jha, had finalised all the modalities of opening the institute through a series of meetings with IIM, Ahmedabad, director B.H. Dholakia.
Jha, who died on Friday, has also left behind a detailed project report (DPR) and the bylaws of the B-school in the offing.
Anjani Kumar Singh, who has replaced Jha as the department’s new secretary, said the new business would begin functioning from the next academic year. “We have all the groundwork ready,” he said.
Sources in the department said that the government had already decided to appoint V. Mukund Das, a former professor of IIM-A, as the first director of its proposed school of management.
In fact, Das, at present working as the dean of Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kozhikode, has also been working on the new project for Bihar. He, along with Piyush Sinha, a professor at IIM-A, got the DPR of the proposed institute prepared in consultation with Jha.
The proposed B-school will start with 50 students at the outset and the admission would be through CAT. Singh said the government had already procured the approval of taking admission in its upcoming B-school through CAT. Apart from the six IIMs, around 70 other B-schools take students based on CAT score. | | | | | The Following 11 Users Say Thank You to writetotanveer For This Useful Post: | abhay agarwal (11-09-2007), ankit_insane (11-09-2007), chakde (11-09-2007), deep_agrawal (11-09-2007), fringant (11-09-2007), Greenspan (11-09-2007), hameed (11-09-2007), IAYF (11-09-2007), jimmygoogle (11-09-2007), mohit1984 (11-09-2007), Obsessed_bout_mba (11-09-2007)

as the discussion lasts for more than 2-3 hours, it is better to choose the time after dinner. as you have a problem we will definitely look for another alternative.
and about the responsibility of saving discussion, google takes care of that
but it would be really great if whole BBLT can be present and respective gurus like Basilisks, JLT , greenspan, Tanveerbhai who can guide us making a good strategy and maximise the marks..
as if now we have decided to have conference on monday, wednesday and friday.
the agenda for tomo's meeting will be aim cat 0808, VA & QA. depends on the availability of gurus the time and inviting you for the conference will be taken care by IAYF. | | | | | The Following 9 Users Say Thank You to jimmygoogle For This Useful Post:

BBLTians,
sorry for missing out the conference last night, I headed home on account of a bad headache and did not do any prep also yesterday...jus ate and slept. Read the transcripts jus now...a special thanks to Basilisk from my side for contributing.
Today woke up...felt fresh and decided I had to give a few hours for prep.
Did Geometry fundamentals , mainly concentrating on triangles, there were a lot of points I hadnt learnt before, no wonder quant has been suffering. Worked on these for a little over an hour.
Took out AIMCAT 720 and did the three DI sets I had left unattempted, found two of them do-able and got the answers right, the other one ..stil unable to understand the funda inspite of refering the solution...if some one has paper, please post the logic behind the "Age of college professors..pie chart" -set ..especially the last question.
After the DI analysis, read a couple of articles each from the Time, The Economist, and Tehelka. Capped it off with the Hindu editorials.
To do Tonight.
1) 808 QA analysis
2) 1 RC test.
3) Geometry excersise questions ... all this apart from the conference we might have today.
Coming to VA strategy .... here is my bit of input ...
Puting all the previous 3 years mocks and actual cats together, I failed to clear the VA cut off just one time, this year in 814. Over all this time what I have realized is that - Either you need to have been reading extensively and have a good command over the language or you need to be working smartly. VA is not random, there is method to VA just like there is method to QA and DI. If VA is going bad for you or me, that only means we have not been looking to improve in a systematic manner. Doing a lot of VA set wont take us anywhere, it is just like doing PnC day in and day out without learning the fundamentals. People who set the Mocks and the actual Cats do not invent grammar, they only test the age old rules already in existance. The least we can do is get familiar with these rules.
For those who belong to the former category and have read extensively (I mean good works of proper literature - magazines and paperbacks do not count) these rules are part of their subconcious thinking, they see something that is wrong and immediately they know, people mistake it for instinct, it is not, it is the result of methodical, long drawn, indeliberate conditioning of the subconcious. It is like an experienced mechanic listening to the engine sound and knowing something is wrong. So we should not tell ourself that good scores in VA is when instincts go right, instincts go right because the instincts have been conditioned to go right in certain scenarios, in other cases they go wrong because such scenarios havent been encountered in the large enough number.
For those who cannot rely on their subconcious to direct them through VA, they should resort to method. Analyse deeply why you went wrong in each Verbal question. I know the time solutions provided are of no use, work with grammar books like renin martin and other good once to find out where you went wrong. And most important is to condition yourself and to consiously be able to pick out that error when we next encounter it. I would reccomend Manhattan Sentence Correction Guide for GMAT. It is clear, consise and very neat in its method. Try to find a pdf online, its too expensive to purchase.
Rock on!

@ BBLT ke bhai logo... I believe, it's better to have a tentative plan of action for our next conference (scheduled for tommorow @ 10)...me suggests, let's focus on Quant tommorow and a rough agenda can be: 1. The QA section of AIMCAT0808 (requesting all to keep the paper alongside for reference) 2. Any specific area/topic that we are not comfortable with here, you can first, pick up a set of questions from this 'trouble area' and post it on this thread before the conference...the gurus and others wil take a look into it and then we can work on these problems together...hope this would help... @ Mohit, won't be possible for many to join in at 8/9...but, don't worry...will paste the whole discussion here for all of us...you can go through that and PM any of us regarding any issues...In case of any concern, please do let me know (IT professionals ki fav line ) I would be sending out the conference invites so rest assured on that part...thanks a lot to Greenspan bhai for the link to that 'gadget'... I'll be soon putting up my set of doubts in quant for tommorow...hope to see good contribution from others as well...(and let's try to stick to max. 1 or 2 topics...) | | | | | The Following 12 Users Say Thank You to IAYF For This Useful Post: | ankit_insane (11-09-2007), chakde (11-09-2007), Greenspan (11-09-2007), HarshaRocks (11-09-2007), jimmygoogle (11-09-2007), krsh.vik (11-09-2007), minkuvg (12-09-2007), mohit1984 (11-09-2007), Obsessed_bout_mba (11-09-2007), pavanpadekal (11-09-2007), rythemdivine (11-09-2007), writetotanveer (11-09-2007)

Now, when we fought, you had that eye of the tiger, man; the edge! And now you gotta get it back, and the way to get it back is to go back to the beginning. You know what I mean?See that look in their eyes, Rock? You gotta get that look back, Rock. Eye of the tiger, man.
