Most companies ask for 'Relevant' Work Experience. But that does not mean that it has to be work experience in the same industry. It can be experience in doing a job that requires same skills. For E.g. A person with experience in a BPO can show that he has experience in Sales if he has done 'Cross Selling' or 'up-selling' over the phone. Or lets say a person who has been a salesman for 2 years. He has experience in dealing with clients which is relevant for consulting companies, because interfacing with clients is essential for a consulting job. So, to answer your question, My experience was not relevant in the sense that it was in the same industry but it was relevant because I could show to the company that my previous employment demanded skills that they are now looking for and that I can use the experience gained in my past employment.

Unfortunately or fortunately the blah blahs never stop .. you sell yourself to the college to get an MBA, then you sell your self to the company so that you can sell something for them... the selling goes on and on. There are instances of an IT guy getting into a Finance and marketing profiles, but it wasn't a lateral one. In our batch most of the Experienced IT guys chose to go into IT, maybe not into an IT company per say but IT dept of companies. and the couple of guys who desperately wanted to get out of IT chose an MT profile that is offered to freshers.

One Company had a laterals hire policy for people with 12 months+ work-ex, in the this case people with 12+ months were allowed to sit for the lateral profile for that company. There was another company, that said that they considered people with only 36+ months for laterals and the college had to oblige. I had joined with 18 months work ex and got a lateral profile as that particular company was willing to consider me as a lateral. These 3 are the only exceptions to the 24+ months rule laid down by the placements committee as far as I can recall. And the profile and pay package offered to people in laterals is definitely better than freshers (the difference can be upto 2 designations and upto 3 lacs in annual salary) . so any of you guys planning on quitting, I would advise you to complete 24 months if you can.
well how in the world i will b able to finish 24 months.. :( joining was in august..

hell so now i will b paid as fresher :( suxxx

Re: IMI,Delhi ::Admissions 2008 - 24-03-2008, 03:35 PM

Its been more than a week, but I am yet to receive the offer letter.Though I have sent the DD,don't know if they will send us the payment receipt by post ?!
If not, we dont have a legal validity of paying up 1.42 lacs, we dont even have the offer letter.

The insti which expects students to pay FCFS, shouldn't also try seeing to it that the offer letters n relevant documents reach the students in time ?

Any ans. from seniors ?
I tried calling up Ratna ma'm ,unfortunately the call was not received,even after several trials .

Anyone in the same boat as me ??
